So, someone mentioned a vip mode in the heavy dosh thread, i think this'd be a sweet mode. One player that can only carry say 5 weight, enough for a pistol or medicgun or something, but has stat boosters - faster heals/welds ect.

If possible, they could even have an AOE bonus for "extra dosh per kill" or "faster fire rate", maybe "extra clip/mag carried" while within 3-5M of the VIP.

Also, VIP cannot die. JIC that wasn't SUPER obvious. he/she dies, you lose. So it adds another layer to the camping strategy, and lowers raw team firepower while potentially boosting it in other ways.

I have no idea how i'd go about coding it, but... Someone plz think about taking it up

EDIT: VIP could also be either another perk, or a pickup at the spawn that starts the game.

This is from my group description and is something we wanted to do but never did, but basically the same thing but a little more straightforward.

"Game Mode: Escort The VIP
The rules are simple 1 player (either majority voted or picked by previous VIP) will be a demo with a pipe hat, only weapons allowed for the VIP are pipes (obviously), 9mm, and Machete.

The rest of the team must "escort" the VIP to another camping spot on the map, or simply across the map. Best maps for this are maps with many corridors. Any perks allowed for non-VIP players."

Basically the idea is to protect the demo with a pipehat from all zeds because if they get too close then boom, he is dead and the "game" is over. The VIP is basically defenseless and must depend on the rest of the team to do everything.

I don't like that - every time i see a game with a useless VIP i think its retarded - VIP should have abilties, be worth something. whats the point of guarding a guy who's entirely useless? Why would HE be the VIP? Thats why you give the VIP special, VIP only abilities. Now you WANT to defend him. Defending him makes SENSE. I'd never play your version frankly - 6 men of zeds with 5 guys to kill em? no extra ammo, damage? The other guy can't even heal cause if he gets to close to zeds its game over? Nope.

ON a side note, this would be best on MISSION maps. Think about it - you have to go all the way through candlesmoke without getting your VIP killed by that Fleshie around the corner - freaky stuff.

I must admit...your description pretty much is how I feel. VIP person is really an important person. If he is weak, then it's mission based, if he's a tank, this is more survival cause if he dies, you all die.

ORRRRR, make him the trader.
or someone with a key that opens the "shop" or something.

so if he dies, you dont get any weapons or ammo.
It would be interesting if you didn't have a trader - not exactly VIP MODE, but "mobile trader". No trader time, people just give the guy money and he buys guns out of the trader and is the only one who can. that'd take some balancing, but be crazy fun.

hmm... maybe special "escort maps could be made" where you have to escort the trader across the map, kinda mission-map-esque except the trader could have limited ammo and suchlike (since she's not in a stockpiled storehouse lol) and players have to buy ammo and stuff as she slowly walks the path. or maybe if players hit a door button she moves into that new zone, which people clear, then they move to the next door and clear that. maybe thats best.

This is a good mission based idea. I think both mission AND survival modes would be good as a mod on their own. I actually hope someone is thinking about taking these on.

Is this a mod or just an idea? Sounds pretty dam good to me.

The classic "VIP" is a defenseless person. Even in real life it is if you think about it (Presidents, Pope, celebrities). I remember playing a VIP mode on a old 007 game (? I think it was) where the VIP was completely defenseless and you needed to escort him. VIP type games have always been like this.

It's a gametype, meaning the objective is to protect him/her, not just wanting to protect him/her because you would get bonuses for doing it. It is supposed to make the game harder/more challenging.

And yes this is just a little game you can play with a group of friends who will listen and help one another, not an actual mod.

Make the VIP Justin Bieber and you have to protect him from hordes of "Stalkers",Sirens/Bearded Beauty and the occasional Flesh Pound/Scrake fan. At the end of the game he betrays you and turned into a boss. It would be epik.

In all seriousness though, VIP benefits would help keep the game together instead of having some guy think "I can just go rambo, why do I have to defend this guy in this server".

What if the VIP, was a mechanic and an NPC?

OK, imagine biotics lab sectioned off with doors, which only the vip could open.
As you get to the end of the section, you have 1 minute of intensified creatures while you wait for him to fix the control panel.
This panel can do 2 things, close a door to the old section and open a door to the new one.
Anything or anyone left in the old section will be killed. (A kill all volume could be made, triggered on this event)

Once the new section door is open, the trader is available for a small amount of time and then the next wave continues.
You cannot use this trader again as you will have to wait untill the next section is opened.

If you get stuck in the old section ( or if you were stupid enough to get lost or go rambo and not stay with the crew) you will die and cannot start untill the next section opens.

If the vip dies, game over!

sorry Halb, never noticed you wrote this in one of your posts :)
