Actually, Hitler wanted to do that in Operation Felix, by taking Gibraltar and closing the Mediterranian Sea so he could take over North Africa, all the way to the Technian oil refineries.
Salazar made sure Portugal staid Neutral during WWII so that the British didn't call upon the very old Portuguese British alliance made true in the Treaty of Windsor after being created in 1373, the 638 year old alliance(it's the oldest alliance ever and it's still in use), because during WWI, the Brits asked for Portugal's help to fight off Germany, as Germany was about to conquer both empire's colonies in Africa, eventually declaring war on both nations.
There where some hard battles, especialy in the Battle of La Lys in Flandres (Belgium) where the British and Portuguese army took a heavy loss, but eventualy recovered and kicked Germany's ***.
Anyways (sorry for getting sidetracked), the UK used the treaty for the Allies setup bases on the archipelagos of Azores in Base das Lages (Lages Base, that is still a millitary base to this day, used a by NATO a lot, especialy in black flights from the Middle-East to Guantamo by the US).
Hitler after invading Russia was running out of tunsten and planned to extract Portugal's tunsten mines and also to re-capture large amounts of Jewish refugges that ran to Portugal due to it's free-visa policy that allowed WWII refugees to run away from the Nazi's into safe hands.
Hitler obviously was mad and decided not to go ahead with Operation Felix due to heavy losses in Russia, especialy in Stalingrad.
Spain persuaded Hitler that they would help Hitler take over the Mediterranian if he asked and would start gearing up for it. The operation was not taking into place because Portugal was heavily supporting the Allies and there is a very large record of Portugal defeating Spain (and even France, Belgium, Holland, Italy, etc.) and they didn't want to come into a clash with Salazar, a very very heartless dictator when it came to wage war with unanimous help from the Portuguese people because they knew Hitler was to not be trusted.
So yes a such campaign would be possible.

it would be nice this time round to see a mod with a fantasy setting.
I'm thinking dystopia or neotokio style - a bit of scifi tech mixed with more realistic gunplay and movement.

You can level up to gain acess to harder and sharper rocks, and more durable sticks, until you make it to Hero Status, where you gain acess to the newest experimental weapons: a new bow, finely crafted by your fascist/Communist/whatever-the-hell-cavemen-would-be-classified scientists, as well as possibly a torch!

Be a Commander Raptor to call in a recon-pterodactyl, or perhaps call the bronciosarus to cause a rockslide-artillery strike!
Massive maps! Intense action! A combination of rural plains, dense jungles and Urban areas of the great nesting spot known as DinoGrad!

Cambrian Orchestra: Heroes of TriloGrad!

Trace warfare back to its roots with this epic mod, depicting as the Nazi Microbes use their flagellum of war to assault the Soviet Bacterium republics! Use the finest microscopic methods of war, and prepare yourself for an epic battle! Even take control of hero Cyanobacteria, and with your Oxygen, inspire your fellows to charge to victory! Perhaps even take advatage of the finest weapons of the day: blast their membranes to bit by producing poisonous chemicals! The Action! The Horror! The Tension!

no, there isn't really two sides in that....maybe Brownish-Yellow Orchestra: Heroes of Influenzagrad? The fascist immune system cells try and take the last great infection of the flu, influenzagrad? No? Hero White Blood Cells? Recon hormones? Upgradeable anti-bodies? New switching plasmid animations? Hmmm?
