It was a terrible feature because people used it for different things. Some used it as a way to mark people for presenting their view accurately, politely and so forth. Others simply used it to mark down people they disagreed with. The latter leads to quite a herd mentality. Which is never a good thing when you're trying to have a constructive discussion...
