Frankly I just always play germans because I'm in love with their style. The way their uniforms look, the design of their equipment, they just have a certain look. It's almost like they have their own class of -punk. There's Dieselpunk, Steampunk, and then there's GermanPunk.
Even before I began seriously studying the history and equipment of WWII I began to notice. I remember when I was playing the Forgotten Hope mod for Battlefield 1942, one of the tanks the german team had access to was the Panzer 38t. I pointed out to the other players that the tank looked odd to me and didn't look like it was german. They told me I was indeed correct and that it was a captured Czech tank painted with german markings and pressed into service.
Whenever I come across images of something from WWII I've never seen before I can usually peg it to being german equipment if it is. That says something about their visual style, that I can identify it that easily just on "look" alone.
So yeah. That's why I always play german.
