Why does nobody play mare nostrum?

Everyone here is always so much debating about an upcoming mod,but why does nobody play mare nostrum anymore?All i see are empty servers..
Is the same going to happen with the other upcoming mods?

Simple answer: there are no tanks or even armored scout cars available.

My guess would be that MN is not complete and the first release has very little content.

I would also say that user stupidity probably factors in there somewhere, as one is bound to come across people who are unable to figure out how to patch the mod.

i would like to play MN from time to time, but i oftenly only have a limited time to play. so since it is patched there is this "psychological barrier" of having to go download and install that patch, wich takes time. so i rather play RO untill theres a new bigger patch with new stuff in that is worth the time needed to install.
call it lazyness or whatever you like, but thats how humans work. choosing the shortest path to achieve something. by patching the game so soon you separate the MN fans from the occasional MN player like me.

i realise i could have downloaded and installed the patch instead of writing this crap, but thats just how stupid humans can be.

The patch I think is definately the cause for the downturn in numbers, it's a shame we couldn't have Steam auto update it!

what is a substantial change to the core gameplay?

Anything that makes new and preferrably more diverse tactics necessary and strenghtens the need for teamplay. Be that by map layout, changing the game rules (objectives, reinforcements...) or weapon values (recoil, spread...) or by adding content.

I too am apparently stupid and lazy.

I tried to patch MN, it didnt work. I tried again and read up on it and it didnt work so I quit. I have too little time to waste playing an on-line game as it is let alone spend over an hour trying to make it work.

I will keep up on the MN news, and when something new (vehicles) get released, I will re-install. But for now, I don't have the time or patience.

But I liked the gameplay, weapons, and those foul-mouthed Aussies.

We will be releasing an installer for 1.2 shortly so people with these patching issues can get back in the game. This will be a new installer from the open Beta 1 release so it should get rid of a lot of user headaches.

I'd like to play & regularly checked to see who was playing, then after i installed the 1.1a patch it seems like the servers are always empty . If when i check the servers there is a crew playing i'll normally drop in and say gday. That's if the ping isn't any higher than 200-250.

well yes, when you make a patch or anyhting else it's best to know most players are like you said "dumb and lazy".
immagine if you would have to go download the new custom maps and install them manually for RO, there would hardly be any custom maps played.
the ideal would be to update the Mods by steam, but that aint gonna happen in a kazillion years. otherwise there are auto installers, but still to get the main bulk of players to update their game themselves you always need to give them a good reason like new maps and vehicles.

Personally I would like to play it more, but was disappointed to find that the desert scenario was turned into close quarters battles in towns.

So I patiently await large, open maps suitable for riflemen, artillery and tanks - as it really was.

A lack of mappers and animators did hold the team back, we wanted to get the infantry stuff done as a priority, then the tanks, so without tanks there is no point in large tank maps...this will come in time.

Remember this was an open beta only, not a full release.
