I think its just the maps, most of them are way to spawn camp friendly. Tanks are another thing, the lack of tanks make a large portion of RO players not download the mod.

Of the 4 maps released, I like both Tobruk and Bardia very much. Tobruk is near perfect, last version made it swing a bit too heavily on the axis side now, but further tweaking should make it perfectly balanced. Bardia's gameplay is, imho, great atm, there are just a room for minor improvements ( some of which being merely cosmetic )
Akaba is better, less chaotic now that holding the center caps locks the other ones. It's a bit of a Dod-esque map, but rather fun nonetheless.
i'm a bit less enthousiastic about fallen empire, both because of its gameplay, and the fact that for some reason, it makes my FPS drop severly...
Whenever I play RO, I check wether there's a more than half-filled euro MN server first. I hope more people will play this as new content/ patches are released.

See discussion on the MN forums.

I disagree about Tobruk being too easy for germans.
Anyone stating the map is unbalanced in the latest version should realize that playing with 6 vs 6 is ALWAYS unbalanced since there will always be some players not paying attention to the capareas.
Play it with 30+ players and I assure you it will be a tough map for the gerries. Even with smoke nades (tho I'm not to fond of them on that map).

yeah, that's indeed a factor. Players not paying attention, and the fact that the volume of defensive fire for each possible attack path is lower (and possibly inexistent)

When we started we thought making it launch as it's own unique entity would allow us to try more new things and differentiate the mod, but I actually agree it would perhaps be better looking at how we can just allow people to join an MN server through RO with fast redirects rather than having to download and install a seperate mod.
ROs community is small, but it's also one of the best gaming communities I've had the pleasure of being part of, and I think it's right we do everything to ensure MN works as neatly as possible with RO.

I'm no longer an active lead on the mod project, but I do think this would be a step worth serious consideration.

My opinion about our current status is that we have some very talented people who have done tremondous work on the new avatar, weapons, sounds and maps....the gripes for me through playtesting are mostly known by the team and are being worked on, such as spawn raping etc.

I think MN will come into it's own when we have the tanks up and running, this is one of the main reasons we thought the african campaign would fit so tightly with ROs gameplay..

And remember people this is just an open beta feedback is absolutely crucial, and thus everyone should follow the link in my sig below and give us your opinion!

I don't want to leave RO to play MN. If MN team could integrate MN into RO (something like CC is trying to do) I think it will get much more players.

I enjoy the Mare Nostrum Mod very much.

I think it achieved its success, because when it came out a few weeks ago, there were a fair amount of people playing it.

However, I think four maps can only hold the interest of players for only so long.

So, everyone, I would look at the Mare Nostrum Mod as a growing process.

I think the more you begin to add to it and when you reach, say, maybe, a dozen maps, it will be able to start to stand on its own two feet.

It looks like someone today added two more maps to the series.

Now, there were some people who wanted the tanks right away.

I think if you add a few GOOD tank maps to the mix, that will also make it a little more interesting.

I think there is some truth to the fact that some people do not wish to click on a few things to get a game going.

Remember BF1942, and how BF Rome and BF Secret Weapons were never as popular as BF1942?? All people had to do was scroll down and click on them.

I'm not recommending that you switch the way you have made it, but there does seem to be something embedded in human nature that leads man to obtain that which he desires by the easiest means.

well for me, the battlefield covered in that mod is not really interesting. I'm more of a eastern front guy.

Do you guys remember the Ro updates?
When you went to look for servers when an update cameout it was full of players for about few days to a week afterwards then after playing to the point of getting bored by the updates these guys left leaving the only the Ro regulars. It even happened to Ahz with the meatgrinder server it was full for a few days then poof nothing. Unfortunately thats why there are few players on MN it has nothing to do with the quaility of the mod or the maps (which are excellent by the way) they are waiting for an update to pull them away from their other games for a couple days.

I think it is a little too early yet, but perhaps MN might consider forming / sponsoring an informal gaming network on which people who enjoy the game could sign up for and make a commitment to play at certain days and times.

Not anything as formal as a realism unit, but just so people can network and play at a certain time so there is a group of players on the servers, intead of everyone simply playing whenever they feel like it "willy-nilly" and finding no one or just a handful (say 10 or less) people playing.

Again, I think it is probably still too early to do this, but it is idea that came to me.

I think the game is great, but there is only like 4 servers that are active with under 170 ping for me, and usually there's only 1 or 2 people in there, and I only get a few hours a day to play, and I just like hopping into a big filled up server, so I just play RO, I'm hoping MN becomes big once it's out of BETA stages.

i peronally would like to see MN get popular, even though being a DH guy :p

MN is differentfrom RO and certainly from DH in the way it plays, mainly because i love the dominance of bolts. so i think all mods DH, MN and CC are complementary, i doubt anyone will start playing only 1 of these and never go back to the others.
only as stated before, 4 maps is not enough to create a solid playerbase.
releasing this early in developpment seems like a risky move, upon release the servers were filled for days. the hard part is to keep those players entertained. and thats were it trips, never will you attrackt again so much people then after a release. building back up a playerbase will be a hard job now, people will want plenty of new weapons, vehicles and maps.

Indeed but we are already starting to see some community created custom maps appear. We are also working on another couple of maps ourselves and we should have our first few tanks ready pretty soon too. So don't worry things are progressing!

with a few more maps and TANKS; soldiers will return to the battlefield.

I only play RO (and MN when I can find a crowd) and I also dabble in a little TF2 but thats beside the point. Anyways, I love the MN mod and kudos to the development team.

As mentioned, Desert Warfare should be a tankers dream. I have 1 request/suggestion: a big reason people complain about RO is the time it takes to get into the action. So, when Tanks come to the MN battlefield, PLEASE make them infantry ridable like the AhZ/MinionWorks crew has done.

My 2 cents.

On the subject of tanks and maps that contain them... may I be so bold as to suggest that you guys dont make 'tank only' maps? Allow for some sort of infantry involvement. Nothing more boring than tank ping-pong.. especially inna bland desert environment.

combined arms MN maps would bring alot of people in too i 'rekon. I can only play on a server for like 50 mins then the maps get boring because there is not enough of 'em.
i dont really mind about having to exit RO to play MN. but would defintly be easier with them all in one server browser.
I think the team should 'advertise' a bit more. i dont see many in-game-action shots/movies or anything really. just pics of maps/weapons/player models...
