Kill claims are worthless, one can wipe one's arse with them. They're routinely high by a factor of two when it comes to tank vs. tank claims, and more like a factor of twenty when it comes to plane vs. tank claims. There is a reason why the OKW/OKH applied a 50% haircut to all kill claims when calculating force ratios and planning operations: anyone basing their planning on taking the soldiers' claims on a face value is shooting himself in the foot...With a howitzer.
The only data that can be taken seriously is what the side reported as their own losses, and even this suffers from category overlap (if a Panzer IV gets hit in the drive sprocket with a 76.2mm shell, is put into workshop for repairs, and the workshop is then overrun, was the Panzer IV merely damaged or was it lost?).
For obvious reasons producing a credible, corroborative synthesis of both sides' claims and actual losses is a daunting task, a titanic task, and dare I say an impossible task 60 years after the events.

Oh lord!
