Well, you might be, but it won't have anything to do with the quality of the books. It'll be more something to do with the fact that this is a portrait of the author:

No kidding. That's just about a perfect line drawing of his face. It's what he looks like. He was the inspiration for Trollface, both in looks and spirit.

Although I was expecting more battle scenes, I really loved this episode and the whole series as well. I'll probably read the first book on my brief holidays next month (unless RO2 beta comes out ). Anybody knows when season 2 is starting?

Don't know yet.

It would have sort of made sense just to call the show ASOIAF, with the subtitle for each season as GOT, ACOK, etc. If they call it GOT it'll be sort of lame, since it's not actually GOT, but if they call it ACOK then it'll be confusing for the people who haven't read the books, and they'll probably see a pretty big drop in viewership, at least at first.

Oh boy, can't wait for Spring 2012...

And I do think the show will keep the name "Game of Thrones", as it's considerably shorter than "a song of ice and fire", less prone to mixing up parts of it, and it's a fitting title throughout, as, at least for now, the struggle for the throne of the Seven Kingdoms is the main theme in the books.

Just finished watching through the whole series after all the excitement in this thread and I can happilly now join the queue for eagerly awaiting the next season...

But yeah, I am glad I have finally found a good example of how good series (and filming in general) look like and not having to mention the same old series to my friends when invited to watch Las Vegas or something...

Well, it sure was worth it though! And you can't expect TV series to be of high quality and also with numerous episodes. I guess they don't have the budget of epic movies ala LOTR

Hopefully though the great reception of the first season will lead to an even better second season that will move along the same troll-line

Great last episode but man... talk about a MASSIVE cliff hanger on all fronts lol. I can't wait to see the tension between that little blonde brat and Tyrion when the latter shows up to rule .

I'm really starting to like that dude who's always at the dragon chick's side and who saved her from being assassinated. One of the few seemingly "good" guys. At least so far... .

This show really is bringing back fond memories of "Rome"... another "brutal" drama.

I'll definitely be buying the books, no way I can wait a year.

This might be a dumb question but I've seen in book stores the entire series (or the books written thus far I should say)... and they've got the HBO characters on them and all... are they EXACTLY the same books as those that have the "original" art before the TV series? Just wanna make sure I don't start reading some slightly altered version.

Is season 2 to cover all of the second book? With all the new settings, some sort of split might be more reasonable. Then again, they already announced the actress for Margaery , and she doesn't really make an appearance until book 3 IIRC.

Presentation aside, I'm also looking forward to the staging of climax points. In the book those fell off a bit in quality, with the plot armour (or the lack thereof) being too obvious and diluting the surprise.

I have to say, not all too many Starks survive....but those that do really manage to become kick***. Even the naive drama queen and cripple are starting to look like they could come back with a vengeance.

Absolutely damned nothing important, interesting or useful happens to a single Stark in the 4th and 5th books, until the last couple pages of #5. 2 or 3 Bran chapters, total, in 4 & 5. Not a single Sansa chapter in 5. Minimal Arya stuff, and it was all boring. Rickon is - barely - heard from.

It feels like we're reading something out of the middle part of Wheel of Time, but with the wrong characters.

Rickon still doesn't do anything super important. All that happens is someone is sent to fetch him, so presumably he is still alive, but in a very odd place, where can be found cannibals. No further explanation is given.

Freys get a little payback, in the form of a pie. Do you remember the song about the Rat King, mentioned in an earlier book? Funny stuff, kinda.

Theon has been, probably, castrated. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

ugh, well at least it's worth the read, but sadly at the moment I'd rather hear more Sansa, Arya, Cersei, and the usual Stark and Lannister bunches.

The Targaryen heir is, I would guess, the "Golden Mercenaries" Leader mentioned earlier. Because, for one thing, they are mentioned repeatedly in the same memo that metions Dany, and usually repitition combined with feeding in details and facts means that it will come back. For another, there's the whole thing about how the mercenaries are made of exiles. And lastly, they have turned away from bussiness and headed in an odd direction, which screams "re-invasion" to me. The only way the guy could be more direct, though, would be A. Rhaegar's child, or B. Dany's older bro.

also, I'm a little dissapointed by the whole 3-eyed-crow letdown....it had a rather mysterious buildup. Of course, I think the more important thing might be whoever "cold hand" is. Now, he's either a very clever and tricky Other trying to use Bran as a tool to escape the confinement of the North. Or he could be a rogue zombie. Or another faction in the North could use zombies. Or it could be a very chilly version of those little green midgets mentioned earlier, the Children o' somethin or rather. Whatever the case, it seems enlightening.

However, Davos' survival makes me very happy; the onion knight was a good character, I didn't want him gone (please let it be Dany's skeleton there).

Don't tell me this one thing, which will probably be half the bloody book anyways though: If Dany actually realizes "hey, I'm getting sidetracked and horribly bogged down, maybe I should actually get on with the bloody invasion before I do something incredibly stupid and inevitably lose either my Dragons, Spartans, or both". As I said, the title tells me that she's probably going to make up her mind and get on with it.
