I posted on the steam forums and only one person responded; I did what he said and it didnt fix the problem. I tried searching on google but I couldnt find a defiantive fix for the problem. Im assuming its something server side and not client side because one of the diagnostic programs the guy recommended said my computer didnt have an winsock corruptions, and I removed my anti-virus and firewall program.

Maybe the format and reinstall that's coming will fix it.
huh?

Well its working now all of a sudden. So im confused as to wether the problem was with my computer or with the steam server?

edit: I reinstalled zone alarm and its no longer working, its giving me the 10053 error again.

edit: Well now its working again. When I first load windows itll give me the 10053 error but I just let it close its self down and I restart it and it works.

Well,as a steam user for over a year now I must say I am very satsfied with steam nowadays, and the steam support helped me on several occasions,so in conclusion, there is no reason to be "afraid" of steam.
Btw. will RO:O have the kind of support that valve offers?

ZA can be quirky at times, especially after an update. It's taken me days to get it to allow programs to work after a ZA update that worked before the update. Sometimes it drives me nuts - but I won't let my computer stay connected without it.

Then again, it's only a backup to my hardware firewall. Suspenders AND belt, that's me!
I never liked Zone Alarm. I use Kerio personal firewall+hardware firewall (router). http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Kerio-Download.cfm
