2D Art Masked not Alpha Textures

I have no problem making tga's that are alpha - they look nice but they do behave weird when there are other alphas around (smoke for e.g.)

I have yet to find a reliable source of info about how to make masked textures.

I seem to remember that it involves using MS Paint and saying the magic words or something :D

If anyone could clue me up I'd be grateful.

I've had no problems using the Nvidia .dds plug-in with PhotoShop CS2 and CS3 for masked textures. Just save the file as a .dds texture with the 'DXT1 with alpha' setting (found in a drop down menu when you save the texture as .dds). Then I just import it into ROEd, check on MIP maps, open up the texture properties, and finally change Alpha to False and Masked to True.

Does this help?
