Is there any true replay value to KF?

Before anyone says it, this is not a troll post, but one of most concern.

I have been playing KF for some months and am feeling that the replay value of such a game is starting to fall apart on me. It's the same thing every time and different people. There's not much you can do in-game other than try the customized maps, whether they leveled up perks or not, but even now they are getting to the point of being stale because the game mechanics is the same as any other map, only difference is which direction you turn to.

I remember when I first bought KF, I was astounded by it, and loved playing through it. The fast action and the occasional slow motion really hyped me up, but now the game just feels like another console game which is really fun to play with before searching for a new game. I suppose first times are really the spice of life.

Don't get me wrong, the money I spent on the game was well spent but without any new content other than "new maps! in stock!" this game doesn't really fare out in the long run. Even now I'm only playing one game every three-four weeks.

What are your guys opinions on this?

Got up to 400 hours on the nail today, had the most fun I've had on biotics in ages. Only thing we did different was try and hold some different places for a change. We held next to the very bottom floor trader on wave 5.

Nearly got raped... team had: -
- 1 late spawner who joined jsut as the trader round was over, therefore spawning Zeds with the player count, but him not actually making it into the game
- A commando who didn't get to the trader in time and was flat out of ammo
- Another commando who got stuck croucing between a system console and a pipe
- A sharpshooter who was slightly on the dopey side with a crossbow and deagles... missed alot :)
- A support specialist who was holding back the hoarde almost single handed until they ran out of ammo at about 100 specs.
- Then there was yours truly as a medic at the back of the room

At about 40 spec left team was getting ripped apart and me and a commando were backed right into the corner. I was spamming heals on him as he tried to cut the specimens down but soon he was out too. Me being completely trapped in the corner threw a grenade at my feet and shot the snot out of anything big with my Mp7.

The nade blew leaving me on 90 health and 30 armour or so, but did enough to clear a path out for me. I bolted past a bunch of crawlers, shot 2 clots that grabbed me before high tailing it up the stairs to grab a quick heal.

Snapped round headshotted 2 gorefasts bearing down on me and pistoled a husk before clearing out the remaining clots and crawlers. Finished on about 6 armour and 70 health...

No matter how seasoned you get at the game, trying to hold somewhere different from the norm can make the game alot harder... and feel alot like it did back in the days as a level 2 medic without an Mp7. Get someone whose cool on skype while you do it too. Still not bored of this gem of a game even today... and I dont even play custom maps :)

I will never get bored of this game! Even if I do, eventually I will come back to it. When I don't feel like playing and shooting of Fire pound's heads, I make maps, and when I'm not playing or making maps, I play KF 2.5, and if I'm not doing any of that, I make mutators and work on custom codes and scripts for my maps! And if I'm not doing that, I'm browsing the forums seeing if my threads have any new posts on them!

What games nowadays do have great replay value? The thinly spread playerbase over so many PC games hurts the long term online future of many games.
KF was never going to have masses of replay as it's scope is naturally small (and it's price has always reflected this), however this does help focus it into the very best game of it's type.
As a coop game of 6 players it has an advantage however - just a trickle of new players combined with veterans getting together for the occasional round can keep it going.
Whether the OP finds longevity with the game i can't say but the convienience of entering a game quickly and having fun tells me I will be playing it for quite some time, if not necessarily with the frequency i am now.

I think the real question is "how much replay value would KF have without levelling?" :D

Yes It's got a lot replay value even without leveling, in the mod where there were no such thing as leveling I logged almost 1000 hours and now in the retail ive logged 660 hours.

The replay value in killingfloor lies in the community and the family-feeling. I think the leveling gives the players a chance to "get some friends" before they lose interest in the leveling.

This is also why I'd say that KF2.5 is better than KillingFloor, since there was only a couple of servers and you knew most of the players.

I've logged 200 hours in retail but easily have 300+ in mod. I played more with friends locally can we tried all sorts of mod, weapon, perk, and setting combinations so it rarely got old. We can do the same with mod but the structure seems too rigid.

I guess you're right actually, I too have played for hundreds of hours and most of the time I didn't think about levelling. It just annoys me that some people say that the levelling is the most important part of the game.
It brings wider appeal and more directed gameplay but it seems to have over time restricted flexibility because as you level up not playing in a way that makes use of the buffs, makes you proportionally worse.

I think that once another update comes out replayability will go up.

Guiltily I must say my friends and I have been coming up with random almost childish things (yet incredibly fun!) to do to entertain ourselves :p

For instance, on Foundry, we all stay in the foyer where we spawned and cannot go past the stairs. We have the hellfire mut on and we don't shoot but intead, play dodge(fire)ball....... last alive wins.....

If that's not fun, try Farmrunover w/ hellfire in a helicopter
Husks vs. Helicopters have never been such fun :D
