ANM2/MG40 is correct. 30-06 is the caliber...same as .303 I don't know.Allright then, final guess:
Inglis ANM2, in .303 cal, retrofitted with a stock and stuff.
Inglis is a Canadian firm that has made many of the comonwealth guns, mostly Browning patents, and where the main supplier of the .303 ANM2's fitted on british aircraft.
If it came from any comonwealth aircraft, its most likely the Inglis AMN2 .303 cal.
.30-06 and .303 is the same caliber i seem to recall, but if not, im still holding on an ANM2.

.30-06 and .303 are completely different cartridges. Most obvious visual difference is that .303 is rimmed and the .30-06 is not.
.303 is rimmed, 30-06 is not. A .303 has a taper, 30-06 is nearly a strait case.they are pretty close in size though ... an untrained person could easily mistake them...
