Grenade Discussion (Merged About 3000 Times)

Tanks had very little (basically none) armor on the bottom, so sticking this thing into the bottom of the tank with the right end first would penetrate 100%, likely killing everyone but the gunner and commander, or disabling the engine. However, in the ordinary course of things, tank bottoms don't usually present easily accessible targets. Maybe you can get your buddy in the T-34 to ram that panzer to tip it on its side first (this can actually be done in RO).

I would very much like to see that. Now -that- is teamwork.

I like the RPG 43 idea but if you guys want to add the RPG 43 the German equivalant must be considered. The Geballte Ladung was highly effective in destroying and disabling Soviet tanks. It would be nice to give these weapons to combat engineers so that they could pick whether to wield a satchal charge or another antitank explosive charge. These "bunched grenades" were a common antitank weapon on the eastern front.
Here are two versions of it below:

The Panzerfaust was not used until 1943, so in pre-1943 maps, German AT soldiers should either get a German AT rifle (which, from my understanding, was not something that was often used), or AT grenades/magnetic mines. Either way, AT grenades sound like they would be a really great addition to the game - adding those grenades to the German AT class would also allow the number of PF's to be reduced for a more realistic loadout, and would make playing tanks much more realistic, since infantry escorts would be necessary in crowded environments (like the bridge on Barashka). Ideally, I would like to see an option for every infantryman on a CA map to carry AT grenades instead of normal grenades.

I have been unable to determine exactly when the Germans and Russians started issuing their HEAT Hand Grenades. I believe the Magnetic AT mine for the Germans is in 44, but I could be wrong on that.

Anyone have the dates? It's hard to find more than passing references to these weapons.

Before the RPG-43 was introduced, the Soviets were using simple high explosive grenades for AT warfare, and considering the lighter armour loadouts of the early war they probably had some success. But yeah, it's generally difficult to find much about HEAT grenades. The most impressive situation i've found them used was Gubkin's units' defense at Kursk.

The Germans used many anti tank rifles in early WWII (even some captured soviet rifles) but because anti tank rifles became less and less effective they relied mainly on explosive charges and PAK guns. It was not until 1943 that the Germans were equipped with the Faustpartone and the Panzerfaust 30. The magnetic anti tank mine the Germans used however was commonly found in 1942 and was used in Stalingrad if I remember correctly here's a pic and a quote:
hhl3.jpg

"This was a shaped hollow charge that looked rather like an inverted funnel. It had a Sprengkapsel 8 detonator at the top of the handle which gave the operator 7.5 seconds to make his escape. The weapon utilized three powerful magnets that exerted a force of 45 kg to attach it to armoured vehicles. The later HHL 3 was even more powerful and over half a million were produced during the war."

Grenades should not kill buttoned up APC driver/occupants

Grenades should not kill buttoned up APC driver/occupants

Whether it's a bug or not, it's extremely annoying and unrealistc. A grenade should not have the ability to kill anyone inside an APC/armored car if it explodes outside of it. Grenades just don't have enough power to penetrate armor. The only exception should be if the driver has his hatch open and the grenade explodes infront of the vehicle. Shrapnel in the face would be quite messy. Of course a well thrown grenade landing inside the open roof of the half track or BA-64 turret should kill everyone inside.

Another thing is SMG's and pistols should not cause any damage. They don't have the power to penetrate the armor of any vehicle in the game. Rifles and machineguns shouldn't either unless they're firing armor pierceing rounds.

I use nades to kill people in half tracks and clown cars all the time and it should be possable but not as easy as it is. if they have the hatch open it should take out the driver maybe 50% of the time if it goes off in front of them. That little clown car should be destroyed from a nade that goes off right under it but shouldnt kill the driver. It should knock a wheel off or just blow it apart Not just peirce the armor. The half track shouldnt be destroyed by a nade but... it should be easier to get a nade to land inside one. seems like they bounce off or fall through it now.
