Level Design Show off your WIP *other* Unreal/Source engine maps

Actually what I'd really like is a way to light up the whole level without adding any lights at all (almost like unlit mode)

when I made a map for COD4 you just changed the world lighting and you could see everything.

Is that what you're talking about Xendance?

Yes. Environmental lighting in UDK basically produces similar lighting to what it is in real life during an overcast day.

This page....

Anyone know of a good tutorial for terrain in UDK?
I haven't done any terrain yet so a beginner tutorial would be great

One page back....

I'm a cheap bastard as I always use other peoples info. :)

You will find so much info about making and importing stuff for
the UDK over at

http://www.hourences.com/tutorials/http://www.hourences.com/tutorials/

He covers all the steps you need to know to get a start.

Start with his material tutorials. Then head over to his
terrain tutorials. Another good advice might be to take a look in the levels provided with the UDK. There you could have noticed there ain't a skybox.

Another good resource is this site.

http://www.lilchips.com/freeue3.asphttp://www.lilchips.com/freeue3.asp

Here you can find sky textures and meshes. And you can download
some example maps. They will give you a very good inside view on whats going on.

Another favourite link is this site

http://www.chrisalbeluhn.com/3D_Tutorials.htmlhttp://www.chrisalbeluhn.com/3D_Tutorials.html

Here you will find some great tutorials on material and lightning in
your map. These people did a great job making tutorials. Thumbs up.......

Why use RO textures. Try to make them yourself. It ain't that hard.

Sometimes I really doubt why the hell should one post on forums. Its bloody waste of time as talking to a wall is more satisfying sometimes. At least your sure it won't be heard.

a lot of people say its easy, but i wasnt aiming for it to be challenging i wanted people to have fun playing it.

i still need to change up the textures instead of having that one black tile texture and some more detail

Looks great. It's really tough to make source maps not look blocky and bland while still being focused on gameplay.

I hope you do manage to make it more challenging, very few (read: none) of portal 2's puzzles required any timing or reflex to complete. I think it's more rewarding for the player if figuring out the puzzle is half the battle, where completing it is the real test.

Of course it's tough to create something fun but not too frustrating.
