Level Design Show off your WIP *other* Unreal/Source engine maps

i have some questions

1) are there any textures available for jungle or normal textures ?

for example grass, greenery and sand
i only found these "ut" textures in the udk standard download


2) how large should be the worldcube for a medium sized infantry map, do i need a worldcube like in ro?


1uu = 2cm , i thought about 50000x50000x50000

1) Export textures from RO into the UDK for now if you are uncomfortable making your own. If you are unsure how I can make a quick step by step for you.

2) Yes you need a world cube, or 6 walls if it's additive. Make your cut a power of two though because it will help with optimization. It doesnt really matter how large it is.
32768x32768x32768 should be fine.

but i didnt find any textures in the RO textures folder.

and i can save the textures only to utx (package) and dds (single texture) in ro sdk

I'm a cheap bastard as I always use other peoples info. :)

You will find so much info about making and importing stuff for
the UDK over at

He covers all the steps you need to know to get a start.

Start with his material tutorials. Then head over to his
terrain tutorials. Another good advice might be to take a look in the levels provided with the UDK. There you could have noticed there ain't a skybox.

Another good resource is this site.

Here you can find sky textures and meshes. And you can download
some example maps. They will give you a very good inside view on whats going on.

Here you will find some great tutorials on material and lightning in
your map. These people did a great job making tutorials. Thumbs up.......

Why use RO textures. Try to make them yourself. It ain't that hard.

found some useful textures

some informations for beginners like me:
first i made my terrain 32768 , then i noticed that its patches not uu.
i just wonderred why building the lights takes so long ;)
so i checked that 1 patch is 256 uus and made the terrain 128x 128 patches. (thats 32768 uu said my calc :D )

now its working :

If you have photoshop, get the dds plugin. It is available for gimp too which is free. After you export textures as dds from ROSDK you can change them to bmp files.

Then in UDK import them into a new package as a texture. Then make a new material and use your texture as a texture sample in the material editor. Then connect the texture sample to the diffuse node.

For making quick but decent looking normal maps you can get crazy bump.

Howdy All! I'm New here as you can see 1ST post..lol. i must say I'm really / truly excited for games , and i can't wait just like everyone else ( I'm Sure ) to get my hands on it.:D I've seen all the pic's and videos. i must say they all look awesome, and not to mention the game is made with the best game engine in the world!

I've been working with the Unreal Engine for 10+ years as it has evolved through the years, and it's only getting better.
