Hello everybody;

recently i tried to install a Killing Floor dedicated server, but it don't work.

My server is a Debian 64-bit.

I used this tutorial, because the other one on the forum is obsolete.

This is what i did :

- I downloaded steamcmd_linux.tar.gz in /home/unreal/steamcmd
- After untar it, i have 4 element : linux32 steamcmd_linux.tar.gz steamcmd.sh steam.sh
- I execute ./steamcmd.sh. Few lines appears, the script download and extract things. I got the Steam> prompt after several seconds.
- I login with a specific account created for my killing server. Then i received the message Logged in OK
- I force the install directory with force_install_dir kfserver
- Then I execute app_update 215360 validate. The download start an after a couple of minutes, Success! App '215360' fully installed
- I quit the Steam prompt
- I go to my kfserver/System directory at /home/unreal/steamcmd/kfserver/System
- I copy the Default.ini in a file KillingFloor.ini
- I edit this KillingFloor.ini file with a best ServerName, and an AdminName and AdminPassword. I also enable the webadmin with bEnabled=True in [UWeb.WebServer]
- I use this command to start the server ./ucc-bin server KF-bioticslab.rom?game=KFmod.KFGameType?VACSecured=true?MaxPlayers=6 -nohomedir
- After several seconds, this line appears "STEAMAUTH : Sending updated server details - MyServerName 0 | 6"
- If i tried to acceed to the web admin, it ask me the login and password i set in KillingFloor.ini, and it WORKS.
- Now the problems are coming. If i launch my Killing Floor game, i can see the server in the list, with version 1062, but if i try to connect to it, just a black screen with the message "Connecting (F10 to cancel)" Nothing happen.
- If i push the F10 button, i can see a "noreconnect" error.

I have searched on Internet and the solution is always the same :

The file steam_appid.txt in the System folder has to be deleted. So let's do it.

- Actually, the only console i have is busy to display "STEAMAUTH : Sending updated server details - MyServerName 0 | 6" messages.
- So i open up an other terminal, and do "more /home/unreal/steamcmd/kfserver/System/steam_appid.txt.
- The file is here, and contains "1250"
- I do "rm /home/unreal/steamcmd/kfserver/System/steam_appid.txt"
- If i do "ls /home/unreal/steamcmd/kfserver/System/steam_appid.txt", this file is not here anymore. So the file has correctly been deleted.

But if i try to connect to my server with my Killing Floor game, the same noreconnect error appear when i wait, and push F10.

This is the result of the netstat -pln when the KF server is launched :

tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:8075 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 5813/ucc-bin-real
udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:10707 0.0.0.0:* 5813/ucc-bin-real
udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:7707 0.0.0.0:* 5813/ucc-bin-real
udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:7708 0.0.0.0:* 5813/ucc-bin-real
udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:7717 0.0.0.0:* 5813/ucc-bin-real
udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:20560 0.0.0.0:* 5813/ucc-bin-real
udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:28852 0.0.0.0:* 5813/ucc-bin-real

This really makes me crazy. Did i forgot something ?

Thanks by advance if you can help me.

Just for the avoidance of doubt:

The file steam_appid.txt needs to be removed from the Client, not the Server.

It would appear that installing the "Toy Master" mod is putting a copy of that file into the "Killing Floor\System" directory on the Client, and that file is enough to cause the connection issue.

The other thing that can cause the same problem is running UCC from the SDK on the Client.

Hope that helps.

There is no steam_appid.txt in my D:\Steam\SteamApps\common\KillingFloor\System folder, and it always display the noreconnect error.

I think the problem come from the server. Its the only place where i can find a steam_appid.txt, and i can play on any other server without any problem.

For that error to pop up, that file must exist. Double check.

The server is correctly updated in 1062, but i can't connect to it, i always got the noreconnect error.

I have only one Steam library in my computer.

Four other players cannot join the server, and they don't have a steam_appid.txt file in their C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\KillingFloor\System folder on their computer. Aside of that, we never had this type of error on other server, and we can join other server without any problem.

I got the same problem.
Connecting via console with hostname works.

Try yourself by entering in console:
open kf.skill0rz.ovh:8107 -> WORKING (the 0 in skill0rz is the number ZERO)
open 5.196.157.178:8107 -> DOES NOT WORK

@Schneider95: What is the IP address of your server?
@Tripwire: It seems that you block 5.x.x.x adresses. Why do you do this?

Sorry but Tripwire do not block anything.

If this is the case then please explain the following to me:
1. Why does it work when using a hostname instead of IP?
2. I set up a server in my local network and changed my network addresses of the second NICs to the following:

Server: 5.196.157.178/24
Client: 5.196.157.182/24

Code:
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]
Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. Alle Rechte vorbehalten.

C:\Users\Crunk_Bass>ping 5.196.157.178

Ping wird ausgef

Because they were used by hamachi.
Please don't post things like "Sorry but Tripwire do not block anything." in the future if you can't proof it.
People with less networking knowledge would give up after such an answer and keep searching for the error on their side where they can never find it.

Sorry but any games developer removing IPs from their games to work = loss of game usage = loss of money = loss of interest. It's almost common sense to be honest.

Hamachi is a VPN software which is often used to play pirated games with other players over the internet. So in this case blocking the IPs was a great decision.

The address space hamachi used is routable since 30.11.2010 because it was assigned to RIPE. Tripwire should have gone ahead and unblock the 5.0.0.0/8 when it became routable.

The Hamachi story would make sense. If this IP range was only use for a private network virtualization, blocking these IP would make sense for a game developer who wants to block their game cracking..

What this thread need is what TWI have to say about this problem on 5.xx.xx.xx IPs. + http://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/showthread.php?t=100292

I purchased an additional IP for my server to verify it is the IP range that is causing problems. Otherwise some "smart" guy could say "it isn't tripwire... you got routing problems" or some other sort of ****.

Everyone who got a basic knowledge of networking should already be satisfied with my tetst of 5.x.x.x addresses in a local network.

So let's traceroute the IPs.
Code:
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]

C:\Users\Crunk_Bass>tracert 5.196.157.178
