Saakashvili can't win this one. He pulled an insane stunt by rushing Tshinval with Russian forces in such close proximity. Is he crazy? Did the incoming US money, support and military hardware cause him lose any sense of reality?

AFAIK there is no confirmation that Russian troops are in Georgia. Those tanks are apparently heading into Southern Ossetia.
BBC reports air raids on Georgian bases and towns, though.
Russia is claiming they are protecting their own peacekeepers from Georgian aggression - they would though, wouldn't they?
I have to say, though, that Russia buzzing Tblisi with fighters during Condoleezza Rice's visit is sending a pretty clear signal of their intent to get and stay very deeply involved in any action in the region. If Georgia ignored that then they are either (imo unjustifiably) confident that Europe and the US will support them to a very great extent or they just simply do not care if they get a whupping.

The very first and earliest reports on the "events" were of Russian peacekeepers being killed during fighting in Tskhinvali.
These reports have however been buried by the media coverage since. I sincerely doubt that Georgia is a "victim" here and that there is considerably more going on on behalf of the US (who backed the "Rose Revolution") and Russia.
Let's hope more of Clancys works don't come true.

When the Georgian President declares war on Russia he's going to receive 1,000 negative popups informing him that Russian troops have won in some of his territories already, and that the United Kingdom and United States have declined to come to their aid, thus the alliance is broken. Partisans are also going to rise up in two of his territories.
