So Im just trying to do something with photoshop, a fairly big file (~5mb) and it works fine until I start editing text. It takes about a minute (literally) to just load (PS CS2 freezes until its done wahtever its doing) the selected text. I open up task manager and theres 45 processes! I reformted less than 2 weeks ago, reinstalled a few programs I use and all of a sudden Ive already got 45 processes running. What kind of stupid bullsomething is that. Basically, I have Norton, HP software (for my printer, which alone is running about 5 processes), XP service pack 2, and a few little programs (limewire, steam, etc). NOTHING else installed and my computer is running like crap. Why do so many damn progams all need to be running, and what could I do to stop these programs from running (only start when they need to).

You can shut off ALL of the HP printer processes. I've done that with mine. Basically, when you print something, Windows loads the necessary drivers, etc,...prints the thing, and then terminates the process.

But instead of shutting all the HP processes down, is there a way i can just make it so they, and other non-essential processes do not run after a restart.
