Kakoda Trail

It would be good to see the Aussies included in Rising Storm and have the Kakoda Trail there also. Just a suggestion and it would probably require a few maps, but the added weapons would also be great. The .303 , Owen Machine Carbine and the Bren to name a few.

Just an idea.

There was, in 2010, a fantastic Custom Map in CoD:WaW called Kokoda Trail....

The Kokoda Track campaign or Kokoda Trail campaign was part of the Pacific War of World War II. The campaign consisted of a series of battles fought between July and November 1942 between Japanese and Allied

Apart from the work of adding some new weapons and uniforms, the main problem with mapping the Kokoda Trail would be making the whole place ridiculously humid, making everything under foot squelch and stink.

Less facetiously - that is one of those less-well-known pieces of the war that would be a great target for a mod team!

Actually, Kokoda Trail simply as a Custom Map, rapidly became one of the most ridiculously popular maps there were at the time......

We appear to have all the resources needed to support this as a Custom Map.. including weapons, uniforms and terrain. Why oft it out to a mod team? It can be done in a matter of weeks instead of months or more.

Because creating a map takes a bunch of work - takes a good amount of attempts to balance and make really fun, as you know from testing community maps on your own servers. And we don't have Aussie uniforms or weapons in the game. And, besides, our guys are all fully committed already.

Because creating a map takes a bunch of work -

Wilsonam and Tripwire prepare us good maps with the mappack coming.
Aggamemnon and Mike, You can be sure mappack are composed with the best maps of RO 2. It's better to wait for a mappack with among Best maps of RO 2, than to wait only for one map - even if this map can be (or not ) the best.

TWI has all the models form RO, DH and MN... vehicles, weapons and uniforms. for a number of nationalities... why not use/modify those to be suitable? As a matter of fact, yes.. we tested many custom maps and found that those mappers were eager to please and made changes and improvements regularly without excuses.

Kokoda Trail would be right up the tropical/ Pacific alley.

Don't think it's that easy to just port from UE 2.5 to UE3.

Maybe take it on as a personal project and make the map with USA vs IJA. If it "goes viral" then maybe someone else will make the uniforms and weapons...

Perhaps so, but custom mappers DO NOT have the library of resources (ie., models, animations and terrain from RO, MN and DH) TWI has.

We have all the models. But they are from the wrong engine. For all of those, we'd need to create hi-poly versions to put them into RO2/RS. Up-rezzing models is kinda hard to do - you have to start all over effectively. Which just brings us back to having to build everything from scratch. After all, if we put RO models into RO2/RS, large sections of the community will just kick us all over the place on the grounds of quality :)

Actually, they do. They have everything we have in that respect... Just grab the RO1 SDK.

When has that made any difference? They kick you all over the place as it is for most anything.

They're begging for vehicles, a better variety of weapons and fresh maps... I'd say go for it at least once... it just might create a resurgence of players. If not, nothing ventured - nothing gained. You can always return to the same old, same old.

If yes, it works then you have a stronger userbase into which you can intro future new releases. As of now, that is precarious at best.

That includes all the models, etc., from DH & MN? Then perhaps the mappers should be made better aware of the goodies being there to use.
Just trying to help.... Kokoda Trail was/is a great scenario for multiplayer. If it happens great, if not - well it was a nice idea.

I never knew that! Thanks for that news Mike. Pity I no longer have W@W, it would have been great having a game (with Aussies) on the (to Australia) pivotal and nation-saving Kokoda Trail. I was looking for screenshots and vid, but could not find anything.

It certainly would include many if not every unrealised suggestions compiled during the Rising Storm community think tank before beta. Such as uniforms, weaponry, significant Pacific nation involvement.

Maybe it will happen.

I'd love to see someone pick this up, however the Kokoda trail was a series of smaller battles like the battle of Isurava and Brigade Hill. These sorts of battles would be perfect for RS because a 64 player server would be (at least a comparatively) representative of how the battles took place in real life.

In addition to that, the Americans also fought in Papua New Guinea, so you wouldn't even have to wait for an Australian faction to get going on that :D
