[Game] IL2 sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Press Release/Video

So what's the word? I don't feel like reading through this ginormous thread... since the epilepsy thing is optional is the game good? Better FM and DM than Sturmovik?
General consensus is that the game is good, but has tons of performance issues and bugs. The first major patch came out today and reportedly is giving a sizable boost to FPS, but there is still lots of work to be done.

There is no question from what I've read that the flight and damage models are superior to IL2 1946. The issue is just getting the game to a state where people can PLAY it.

Alright, looks like I'm good to sit it out for a year since I don't have the money for a super-hot rig anyways :). Still loads of people playing Sturm in HyperLobby thankfully.

I trust Oleg to patch it up... just hope Ubi doesn't get in the way :(. If they do... guess people will just keep playing Sturmovik for another decade lol.

Skimmed over the first patch, looks good. I'll wait it out for a year as someone else said. By then I will be getting a new video card to. I'd rather just wait and get a stable game than buy something and not be able to play it for a long time.

In the meantime I am looking for DCS Black Shark. Seems to be sold out locally.

Huzzah news of another patch has been posted on the 1C forums:

http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=21362

It looks like they're taking more advantage of multicore processors (thank god) by loading the textures on a separate core. On top of this there will now be an option to turn off SSAO (which has been a huge performance killer) as well as lower texture quality (another big FPS killer).

They are releasing the beta patch tomorrow (yay!) with a probable official release on Monday. I have my fingers crossed that this will finally make the game more playable for me and everyone else.

(Oh yeah, I bought the game btw ;))

I caved and got it, with the beta patch it's perfectly playable on med with shadows on, and building detail/number set to low.

Q9450
6GB RAM
GTX 260

Went for a flight over London, lowest it got when I flew really low was 20fps, I strafed Big Ben :D

Interesting.
Well, they decided to delay the North American release for an extra month (now May 24th). Savages. Perhaps because we are there biggest audience, and they want to make it good before we get it.

I from the US and I bought it from JustFlight, a UK based website, and got the Steam code and played it right away.

Just a suggestion ;)

I am warning you that this game is far from fixed, however. Now that my performance issues aren't so extreme, I'm starting to notice how terrible the enemy AI is, which is currently cheating way worse than they ever did in IL2 1946. I've actually gone back to dogfighting in 1946 until they fix the AI. See this thread (and others):

Before you bother building the LED setup, you might want to read up on this thread: http://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/showthread.php?t=51622http://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/showthread.php?t=51622

It's about using a webcam, such as a PS Eye for head tracking with no tracking accessories attached to you, just using facial recognition.
I'll give it a go, but some things I don't like are that it is dependant on having good lighting on your face and can tax your CPU. If I build an IR hat or clip and use freetrack I can pull 120fps out of my PSeye at 320x240, or 75fps at 640x480 with little to no CPU drain. I also don't have to rely on lighting being good etc.

Still I'll give it a crack and see what I think.

I vote that before CoD releases that all of us in this thread hop online into a IL-2 1946 server and do a coop mission of some kind. That would be epic.

This is an excellent idea, please count me in! I always wondered what this community thought of IL-2. I'll even admit in this forum that it's been my favorite game for a long time because I'm both a WW2 and a flight nut.

I'll be sad to lose the Lightning and Corsair but I hope that this game, like the previous group, starts with a few then gets a remarkable number of add-ons over time.

(I've never had a place to say this before) but I really wish that IL-2 1946 had included my favorite experimental plane- the F5U

I know this is an almighty bump but if there's anyone still here who plays/knows the game can you help me?

Why are squadron radio callsigns for RAF only listed from 'Acorn' up to mid 'S' - so no 'tennis' 'viceroy' etc.
Is there a fix to complete the list - google doesn't help and i've trawled through the forums.

I'm sure ppl would recommend installing the 4.3 community patch anyway but even as it is the the game's pretty good imo and runs well - and for now I'm enjoying making and playing coop missions with my mates.

I just want to add the correct callsigns to the squads i use in missions.
