Tactics flare revolver trick

I'm not sure if this is new, but I was messing around with the flare revolver and i noticed you were able to trigger your grenades early with the flare gun, similar to grenade launchers. this is a nice trick for several perks. for firebug it quickly allows you to set a small group on fire, and it might be relatively useful for support or demo too.
is this new or am I late to the party?

Late to the party you can also do it with the flamethrower and husk launcher.

You can also shoot or melee your own pipe bombs to detonate them.

By the same token, Siren screams can destroy the flares while they are in mid-air. I found out by accident. It was cool to learn it first-hand, but I was still disappointed.

well, now I know. However, i think the flare pistol has an advantage (atleast off perk), in that it's light, has a high ammo count, and is not that expensive. Also blowing up grenades with a pistol makes me feel like a badass.
I didn't know that melee triggered pipes.

Flare Revolver is awesome in Demolition's loadout: M32+M79+Pipes+Flare. It's not only helping you for self-defense, but also triggers your own pipebombs. For example, with a good timing you can detonate pipebomb just when Patriarch runs on them.

I know that on the up side, it's easier with a flare gun. But then on the downside, it's easier with a flare gun

You can do the same with a 9mm?

Yes you can, but 9mm has no penetration, so you can't hit a pipebomb when zed is already standing on it. But Flare Revolver has a splash damage.
