Hello, I've always wanted to make KF2 objective maps and the objectives update is what i've been waiting for.

I'm totally new for making KF2 maps and i watched several tutorials on youtube, so far its pretty straight forward but i have several question.

1. How big can KF2 map be?
2. In the youtube tutorial i watched the guy is using ingame floor, what i'm plan on doing is a forest with uneven ground so do i have to make terrain in maya and import it (if so, how do i do it? and how does the boundary works in KF? because im assuming if i just putting terrain plane my character just straight fell off) or is there an easier way to do it?
3. As im heavily using maya is there a rule on how scaling in maya translate to KF scaling?

Thank you.

Getting Started

Realistically - you dont need to create the whole map in an external 3D program. UDK provides Brushes to white box initially (though you shouldn't use Brushes to build final levels). KF2 uses a modular system to build maps which is pretty efficient in both whiteboxing and reducing asset creation. Common LD practices uses modular systems, its generally not recommended to build entirely in 3D program as it doesn't allow for much flexibility and optimization.

Modular Sets

For natural ground use the Landscape system:

Size of the map varies. The largest map in physical space is Manor, middle click and drag to create a ruler within the sdk in a ortho top perspective to gain a grasp of whats acceptable for a playable space. Generally <~20K uu is acceptable for a playable space in KF2. Asset wise - recommended to stick around 25k actors in a scene.

Additional things to know, large maps suffer from being unable to path correctly to the trader - there is a hardcut off of 1024 path nodes. If you want examples of large maps you can check out most of RockMax's Stalker maps, however some suffer from the hard limit mentioned above: https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/.../?id=851158970
