Hello,
So I used to Mod the old Battlefield games, and many of the Battlefield Vietnam maps were just amazing. To help you remake them. I show you the simple steps how to get the Heighmap over to the SDK.
Here is what you need:
1. BF: Vietnam (or at least the Mappackage) /Battlefield 2
2. Rising Storm 2 SDK (obviously)
3. BGA (https://code.google.com/archive/p/bga/)(only BF Vietnam)
4. HMCS (http://www.lilchips.com/hmcs2.htm)
A:Here is what you need to do to extract the Heightmap:
1. Battlefield Vietnam
1. Open BGA
2. Open the Mappackage.rfa (usually found here: Battlefield Vietnam\Mods\BfVietnam\Archives\BfVietnam\Levels)
3. Select Heightmap.raw
4. Extract -> Selected and choose the directory (BGA will leave the package structure intact while extracting, that means you will find the file in ChosenDirectory\BfVietnam\levels\Mapname\)
2. Battlefield 2
1. go to your BF2-level directory (...\Battlefield 2 Complete Collection\mods\bf2\Levels)
2. Select the Map and open the Folder
3. Extract the Clientfile with any tool to unzip
4. Copy the heighmap.raw
3. Battlefield Bad Company 2 Vietnam
download my converted file from:
https://1drv.ms/f/s!As5DAwt08u6joX_5NueePWlb6ufE
B:Here is what you need to do to import them into the SDK
1. Change the filetype to .r16 (by renaming it-> not needed for BFBC2)
2. Open it in HMCS
2.a) you might wanna downscale/upscale the heightmap, so you dont need to use the drawsize tool on the terrain (a 257*257 has a size of 1,31km*1.31km... Keep in mind that the play area might be smaller)
2.b) you also wanna adapt the altitude of the map here. (I used a difference of 10000 on a 512x512 heightmap... that fitted quit well-> remember to use a lower one on a smaller Heightmap)
3. Save the Heightmap as Unreal G16 Heightmap (*.bmp)
4. Open up The RS2-SDK
5. Go to Terrain Editing Mode
6. Check the Checkbox "Heightmap Only?" and click on import
7. Navigate to your .bmp Heightmap and click on open...
So guys I wish you good luck ex-/importing Heightmaps. If you have questions feel free to ask.
