8800GT problems...HELP!

I bought an XFX 8800GT 512MB video card, and it turns out my board is incompatible with this card. I've heard that the 8800GT's bios can be flashed to PCI-e 1.0 spec but I can't find anything on how to do this.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

My board is an ASUS A8V-XE

Hey, what do you know, someone else in the same boat as me (though I haven't bought a GT).

I only know of ASUS cards having an official bios release to be flashed to the older spec. I've personally emailed MSI about this because according to this - http://www.pcisig.com/news_room/faqs/pcie2.0_faq/ - the 2.0 spec SHOULD be backwards compatible. It's just a load of bull**** that either the mobo manufacturers or the video card manufacturers dropped the ball big time, and I'm not pleased.

why risk to kill a 250 eu graphicscard over a 70 eu mobo?

i have a msi 8800gt same incompatibility with my asrock mobo, i just bought a new mobo no danger in that plus i now got a board that supports sli for future upgrades

Well, I found the bios, modded it, and reinstalled it with nvflash. I now have an XFX 8800GT working with this incompatible board!

BTW, after I got it working I tried it in an ASROCK and it's still a no-go.

Also, I've contacted my mobo maker, MSI, about this issue. They said that their boards are fully backwards compatible and adhere to the standards set. So it's looking more like it's just the new cards that are screwing things up for this.
