People get burned out and I can empathize.
Hopefully it made for a good learning experience for those involved even if immediate gains are not to be had.
Although it might seem like a waste it's something I've thought about. One of the great things about RO1 was that it did provide that sort of historical grounding for what was happening, from unit to role and weapon descriptions.
Last I heard following their failed Kickstarter CRS is down to 4 staff members, none of which are, to my knowledge, programmers or artists. For a game that needs work, it helps to have people who can do work.
If you watch it play out you will see things like the Soviet flag, Stukas, and German/Soviet soldier silhouettes, but they are all very faint. The new menu background is ABSOLUTELY intended to be the new menu that encompasses both games.
