Level Design Mare Nostrum Mapping Contest

mappingcontest.jpg

The Mare Nostrum team are proud to announce the launch of the El-Alamein Mapping Contest.

There are two phases to the contest:
• Phase 1: Infantry maps to be submitted by 30th June in commemoration of the start of the first Battle of El-Alamein.
• Phase 2: Combined Arms/Tank Maps to be submitted by 26th July, the anniversary of the end of the first Battle of El-Alamein.

Rules are straight forward:
• No using other community created content without the creator’s permission.
• No remaking stock RO maps.

We would like to encourage any budding mappers to try to base their maps on historical battles, but ultimately we’re just after seeing some creative entries and innovative gameplay.

Prizes are to take inspiration from the now famous Summer Offensive mapping contest from the Red Orchestra mod days. First and second place will both get to choose a prize from a selection of WWII militaria. Our competition winners as well as any other worthy entries will be offered the support in order to become an official map for Mare Nostrum.

We are also pleased to announce some forthcoming content, which will be in game ready for the mappers working on phase 2 to be able to implement, test and balance their maps. (This list is subject to change)

As Sam said, we'd like to encourage more people to try mapping and will gladly offer some help and advice. So make sure you visit our forums and irc channel and use #RO-LevelDesign also on gamesurge and check out the Level Design section of these forums for more advice and support. Mapping can also be a collaborative process, especially if you feel you have some skills but not quite the full set to make a map on your own.

Either way technical skill is only one aspect, and one that we can give you advice and feedback on, what really matters are that we want to see some creative and innovative maps and gameplay ideas.
