Darkest Hour: Normandy 1944

i smell propaganda so bad ....... *cough* Maus *cough*

Think they are referring to tanks that actually saw combat, or were at least deployed on a battlefield if not mistaken.

Operational use

The working Maus prototypes (2 built, 9 were in production by wars end) remained at Kummersdorf and at the proving grounds in Boblingen. In the last weeks of the war the V1 prototype with the dummy turret was captured by the advancing Soviet Forces in the vicinity of the western batteries of the Kummersdorf artillery firing grounds. It had been mechanically sabotaged by the Germans before abandoning it. The V2 prototype with the armed turret was dispatched to Berlin for its defense but broke down at Stamplager, near Zossen. It was blown up by its crew to prevent it from falling into enemy hands. It did not see any combat.

would be nice to state your source

Sorry, no offense Guy. I have seen/heard reports that prototype V2 supposedly may have saw combat (defending the facility at Kummersdorf), or ran into mechanical problems while leaving Kummersdorf to go to the front lines, I can not find any definitive info to support this, sorry. If you have info to the contrary please post, loved to see it. There is reportedly an intact Maus (only one in existence) on display in Russia but it is reported to have the turret of V2 and the chassis of V1.

Back on topic now the group at Darkest Hour are doing a superb job and this Mod is really going to be some fun. :D Were now talking the King Tiger and the M-26 Pershing, come on now, does not get much better than that in my book. What could be next????? Keep up the Great work tankman24 !!!!!!

I think you should send Night2006 on a research trip to a farm...

A few proportional hints: the shoulders and the hip of a cow isn't that broad. The tummy is like a barrel, but the legs are closer apart. As we speak I am doing rough sketches which will help you to improve the cow

Also, the cattle in Normandy is of a different breed. It has quita a particular pattern and is rather white with dark brown spots than pure dark brown. See here:

But then, the realistic portrayal of cattle was never one of the strong points of RO (for example the almost spherical pigs and 6 teated cows...), so you wouldn't stick out ;)
Speaking of Teats: Bessie the Cow is missing some features that would set her apart from Billy the Ox

You have to keep in mind that cows in Europe, especially back than were elegant, majestic creatures and not genetically engineered bulbous barrels of meat on legs.
Also, most cows on small farms back then were there for producing milk, not meat, thus they had a different shape than the meat cattle.

So here are my sketches:

And to prevent the confusion which had obviously ridden the artist who created RO's stock cows:

pay attention to the number of teats available!

Hope that helped!

rattus...you seem far too interested in the cow. secondly not all european cows are 1 breed and breeds have different colourations, builds even muscle density (trust me i know a lot about cows). Bessie will serve her purpose just fine but i do appreciate your input we can try and make her a little more anotomically correct if it doesn't waste too many polies...and we are keeping her purpose underwraps for now :)
