Game doesn't start anymore

After downloading the patch yesterday I played with no problems. Today when I started RO up Steam "updated" something and now RO doesn't start at all.

I tried this from the fix it list:
Error: When I Start RO:O nothing happens
Fix:
1. Use this link to verify your cache steam://validate/1200
2. When Steam finished downloading the rest of the game, Start Red Orchestra normally

But clicking on that link only opens a blank window and nothing happens. Any ideas?

Tried validating the cache manually? go in Steam and right click Red Orchestra, then click properties, then local files, then verify integrety of game cache

We've found the problem... to confirm the symptoms:

After Steam updated today (20th Sep) some people may find that they can no longer launch RO. When you bring up the task manager, you will find a "RedOrchestra.exe" process running, using ~10Mb, but the game does not appear.

This SHOULD only affect those who have the SDK installed.

There will be a patch put out for the SDK shortly (eta next few hours) that will fix the problem. In the meantime, take the following steps:

1. End the "RedOrchestra.exe" process from the Task Manager (Ctrl-alt-del)

2. Delete the file "Steam.dll" from the folder Steam\SteamApps\Common\Red Orchestra\System.

3. Re-launch RO and it should now run correctly.

Please note that you will not be able to use the SDK for the next few hours until we patch this issue.

Thank you for posting a work around, I was all in a tizzy at Steam for a moment there (as soon as I saw 'Updating Steam Files' I knew there was going to be trouble! )

Yep, exact same problem here. Once again Steam shows it's undying hate toward the SDK. *Sigh* I cringe every time Steam updates and wonder what's going to be broke now.

Well Total Conversion modders for RO got some nice goodies in the Steam update so don't be too hasty to condemn Steam The problem was a screw up on Tripwire's end this time. We'll get a fixed SDK out ASAP and make a post here to let you know when its up.

lol, yeah sorry about that comment I deleted it when I saw that Steam wasn't totally at fault. But I really don't recall any Steam update that didn't wreck RO for those with the SDK installed.

Phew, thank God you guys are already on top of this. I restarted my steam many times, and even restarted my computer, then almost punched the screen when RO still didn't start. Thanks for the quick solution TWI.

I closed the RO process, turned steam off, uninstalled the Steam.dll file, but when I tried to start RO up again, I was told I had to download it...all 1400MB of it. As soon as I restored the Steam.dll, that problem stopped, but the game went back to refusing to start.

Wtf is up with that? What should I do?

Stands for Software Development Kit or something similar. In RO's case, it's mostly used to map maps and add in new models/skins and such


Merder, make sure that you stop the RO process, and delete the Steam.dll file WHILE steam is running. Do NOT close steam before you delete the file. FYI n' all

Or do you automatically get it if you d/load a map or something for RO?

Then you don't need it and no you do not get it automatically.
