I tried once on pavlovs house on one of those heavy MGs but it just went out of sight so didnt know if it crashed.

I always give it a go, one time i saw flames on the side and it went prrt prrt prrt. But no crash, or perhaps i was imagining it

I was wondering this too. I was considering shooting at it with an AT rifle but then decided to conserve my ammo instead

Tried it last night and failed. It reconned everything everywhere with impunity, despite my best efforts and 3 drums of ammo.

One of the beta videos shows one crashing (prior to DDE release).
You can hear the engine with a high pitched whine as if it was going really fast, like on the movies, but when it came into sight it was floating down at the speed of a feather, and wasn't even aiming down, but had the orientation that it has while flying.

It would help if there was any notification that you're actually hitting them and if they didn't disappear while flying round.

I have a feeling you pretty much have to hit the engine or the pilot to take one down. I'm not sure how much damage you can do to the flight surfaces with regular rifle rounds. Not to mention you need to lead them a LOT, as they're going a lot faster than a running soldier.

Before the Beta was released I heard a dev or two actually state that since they fly so low to the ground, they can be shot down by small arms fire.
So you can shoot them down, you just need to figure out how you do that.

I was going to shoot a few recon planes last night, however two were my own team's recon plane and the other was above my ability to aim while prone with my ATR.

You can shoot them down if you want negitive points. Heres a video of me shooting 2 down in my thread.

I hit a recon plane with the pz4 tank maingun two times and all it did was burn in the cockpit. Didn't crash though.
