[Game] Your favourite boardgame(s)?

I noticed the negative changes in Games Workshop post 2000. With the introduction of LOTR and the loss of Specialist Games, the loss of the original Mail Order parts service, the continual price increases, the loss of many original sculptors, moving from lead to plastic in many of their ranges. From a small shop in Hammersmith to a world wide commercial beast, I miss the old days :(

For those who still play GW stuff I can recommend 'Dark Sphere' in Waterloo, London as a great discount shop for GW products. If you don't live in London they do reasonable delivery and 25% off all items in their web store. It's the only place I get my GW stuff from unless it's the older stuff from places like ebay.

So for example a box of 20x Empire Militia is normally

This is a brilliant site! Thanks for sharing this. :) Say, what exactly are the specialist games? I've been hearing that term thrown around quite a lot, but I don't know what they are.

It was originally set up to cover the off-shoot games like Gorkamorka, Necromunda, Man 'O War, Blood Bowl, Warhammer Quest etc

Many of these went out of print and Specialist Games used to host PDFs of all of the rules and supplementary rules that were hard to find. They used to have their own website/forums and the magazine Fanatic which would cater for players of these old games.

Now Specialist games has been relegated to the main GW site and is a small only covers half of what they used it :(

Well my classic favorite is, and probably always will be Supremacy (now defunct, so only can be found used.. I think I have nearly all the expansions for it, which for a while I went on quite the collectors binge on).

Of late, I've been quite enjoying Flying Frog games (I've played "Last Night on Earth" and "A Touch of Evil", both are very similar, and I think I'd enjoy their other products as well).. I find as I get older, I'm preferring games that are less rules-heavy (like Supremacy, or systems like ASL and such..).. these guys meet my happy-land of fun-and-interesting.

Other 'favorites' I keep handy are things like Guillotine.. the problem with board games is you have to have the time/effort/like-minded-persons in sufficient quantity to play them :/
