With any luck, I'll be shot of my Volvo tonight. 2002 V40, only has ~91,000 miles on it, but it's having some serious electrical problems that I just can't seem to fix. I've found a couple of very nice options to replace it ... just got to decide for sure which direction to go.

I need something with 4 wheel drive. My wife wants me to get a pickup truck, but I can't really afford one that's set up the way that I want, and I really don't need a bed for anything. I'm leaning more towards an SUV, myself. If I really need to do something that needs more room than what I have internal to the vehicle, I can always just get a small utility trailer or something.

The back of my V40 is usually occupied by lots and lots of tools. I usually have a welder back there, and a ladder, and a couple or three hundred pounds of hand tools, air tools, whatever.

Feel free to add your input:

1. 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. It's 4WD, has a Hemi. It's silver, with grey leather. I think it's got every single option possible, with the sole exception of the dual-screen rear-seat entertainment system. (It's only got the one screen setup.) It's got ~40,000 miles and is the oldest and most expensive of the options ... but since it's from a Jeep dealership, it has the option of a lifetime bumper to bumper warrantee from Chrysler itself, which will be honored at any Chrysler / Dodge / Jeep dealership. This makes it very attractive. Also, it can tow. It could probably just about yank my house off the foundation and drag it down the street ... and my house is not a mobile home.

2. 2007 Subaru Outback XT wagon. It's 4WD, has about 50,000 miles on it. Equipment is more or less comparable to the Jeep, although it doesn't have the navigation system or rear entertainment system. I don't have kids that live with me though, so I don't really care about back seat passengers. It's dark colored, with dark grey or black leather. It's a turbo, so it should be nice and quick - the 2.5 XT engine is basically a de-tuned STI motor. It can't tow as much as the Jeep - when I used to sell Subaru, I think they were rated for ~2,000 lbs or so towing - but it's going to get much better gas mileage than the Jeep. It's a couple thousand cheaper than the Jeep, as well. It is not, however, as capable as the Jeep in terms of off-road use. It would more than likely take care of all the off-road work that I'm likely to put it to, though. However ... though this is at a dealership, it does not have the option of getting the same sort of warrantee that I could get with the Jeep.

3. Moving completely away from the practical side of things, the final option is more lust-based than anything else: 2007 Volvo S60R. Silver, dark blue leather. AWD, turbo, governed to 155 miles per hour. Performance on par with Mercedes C-class AMG offerings. Has about 50,000 miles on it also, and like the Subaru is at a dealership where I don't have the option of getting the lifetime warrantee. Price is about the same as the Subaru as well. It would be fun as hell, though, and is fully optioned out. It appears to have every single piece of available equipment for that model / year. Not even remotely an off-road capable vehicle, and not something I could put a ladder in. Not something I'd even want to drive down the roads I have to take to get to work every day, for fear of scratching it up. But soooooooooooooooooooooooo much fun to drive ...

I'm really leaning toward the Jeep, mostly because of the warrantee. I'd really love to have the security of bumper to bumper protection for the lifetime of the vehicle. I'll be putting some pretty serious miles on whatever I get - something probably on the order of ~20,000 per year at a minimum - so that sort of peace of mind is pretty important ... but is it more important than the gas mileage difference between these vehicles ...

Anyway, I'd love to hear y'all's thoughts.

Hmm... my Volvo, an '89 240DL, also has a mysterious and unending electrical problem as well.

As long as the warranty includes all the little things like heating, etc., then go for it. My sister has a '97 Cherokee and it does what it does well, but all of the "convenience" features break all the time. I know something like heating doesn't affect the vehicle's functioning in any way, but try lasting through a New England winter without it and you will see what I mean ;).

I'm from Maine originally, so I'm all too familiar with New England winters. Actually, winters in Central California aren't always a walk in the park either - this morning there was a solid quarter-inch of ice on my windshield. I've had to use the ice scrapers quite a lot. Less snow, of course, but still a good bit of frost.

We bought my wife's car - brand new 2010 Charger - from the same dealership, got the same warrantee package for it - and it appears to really be bumper to bumper, just the same as the 3/36 warrantee from the factory, except that there is a $100 deductible. If it's something small like a seat heater switch, it's probably not worth doing right away ... but once there's two or three little things, it suddenly is worth it. It seems to really cover everything, down to window switches, radio buttons, etc. It was a good deal on the Charger, especially with the mileage that she puts on her cars. Her last one, a Saturn, got almost 50,000 miles per year. She's less than 60 days into the Charger, and she's already got over 7,000 miles on it.

I was expecting a conflict between the Koreas, I'm dissapointed nothing happend except some shelling. Would've made things more interesting.

A Nutter (or nut gatherer) is one who gathers nut (fruit)s, and is hence a family name and a placename. The word nutter is also a pejorative term describing certain behavioural characteristics.

NutCrusher

what do they tweet?

*Had to suck 6 black cocks today, fml*
Haha, most of them seem pretty dumb and one posts pictures of herself naked. After I saw a documentry on porn I had the idea that it was all just show, but some of them really seem to be incredibly stupid. Not that it mattered in their job though. I just sometimes wonder why one or the other actress does that **** when they could easily be normal models.

So I went a slightly different direction with the car purchase. (See posts 185, 186 and 189 in this thread.)

Wound up getting a 2008 Saab 9-3 sedan. White, tan leather, faster than hell. I've had a couple Saabs before, so I know them and like them. (Actually ... more than a couple. WAY more than a couple, including a couple that still had 2-stroke engines.) This thing has only 27,000 miles on it. It was leased late in 2008, so it's still got almost 2 full years and over 20,000 miles of warrantee left from Saab. Since I have a pretty long commute though, I went ahead and bought an extra 100,000 miles of warrantee from CarMax, too.

I'm pretty pleased with this.
