I confess I hate the "Elite Rifleman" name. There's nothing really "elite" about him, he was just a more experienced soldier or a better shot who was given the semi-automatic rifle. I'd rather he be named the "Senior Rifleman", which implies he's just more experienced and not some specialist sent in from the War Academy. I've also seen the title in Russian orders of battle for modern infantry platoons.

Anyway vote for your preferred name above.

Pointless criticism if you ask me. Elite Rifleman is the best of the riflemen... ergo, elite rifleman. Citing the definition of "senior" and saying, "see, it works" is a fallacious argument; I could cite the definition of "awesome" to suggest that the class be named "Awesome Rifleman," but that wouldn't mean it's a better name than "Elite Rifleman" for dozens of reasons.

Sorry to be a bit of an ***, but when you said you xouldnt careless abut semantics, itwas obvious when you used the Noun version of elite, against the Adj. version of Senior

To conclude

Elite noun
1.
( often used with a plural verb ) the choice or best of anything considered collectively, as of a group or class of persons.

Elite adjective
5.
representing the most choice or select; best: an elite group of authors.
