PC stopped working

After the AA3 beta cra
shed my system my computer wouldn't respond to pressing the power button anymore so does anyone of you guys know what causes this?

Pull your power cord out of your PSU and plug it back in. Try again.

Failing that, pull the side of your case off and disconnect all power. Then remove the CMOS battery. Your motherboard should have a CMOS reset jumper, check your motherboard manual for its location and which pins to short to reset the BIOS.

Plug the power in and leave the battery out. Turn the computer on. If it powers up, turn it off, reset your jumpers and plug the battery back in. Power up.

If that does nothing; Pull out the PWR Switch cable that leads from your power button onto the front panel pins on your motherboard - Check your manual for this. With a flat blade screw driver, touch both pins of your PWR Switch at the same time. This should switch the computer on.

Maybe you flicked it off with the power-switch and forgot to turn it on again before you pressed the power-button?
This is not meant in a condescending way! Just sometimes it's the little things that are overlooked.

sounds like something is fried inside, the PSU, the motherboard or the micro, maybe more than one thing

I'd suspect PSU, unless there's been some catastrophic failure of your motherboard...got a spare to switch out and test with?

Most of the other hardware wouldn't prevent powering on/booting, and you'd at least get BIOS beeps.

Okay, Dcodes tips didn't work so it must be the PSU which brings me to my next question:
Can anyone recommend a cheap 500W PSU?

Yeah, I have to agree with this. Better to spend a few extra $$, although you don't need to go top of the line if too expensive.

Antec Earthwatts 500.

Antec are pretty good value and they sell quality kit.

Corsair 520HX

Even better built but a little more pricey.

You will be fine with the Antec. Like others have said, don't go getting cheap no branded crap.

Out of both of them i would choose the OCZ as its probably built to a higher quality.

I seem to remember that Antec and Corsair use the same elements.

I got a quite similar problem, but after pressing the pwr-button my fans start for like half a second and after that nothing happens for 5 secs until it tries to start itself again ( without success, again only half a second).

I got to test what could be broken, hope the psu of a friend will work, otherwise it must be my cpu or mobo because I already unplugged everything else (ram, gpu, hdd, dvd). When I come home I will first try if my psu works without anything else attached, if I remember right I only have to connect the green and one of the black cables in the 12V cable, right?

Sounds like another PSU problem.
