[Question] Loss of Network

Ive already had this convo a few times on here....,

Apparently Steam says youve got a crappy router with broken routing tables if it completely cuts you off the internet.., i say thats tosh. I also have the clogging up problem with 4 DIFFERENT routers....,

Zyxel P-660HW-T1 v2

Thompson TG585v8

D-Link DSL-G624T
( all with direct ethernet connection )

I have also just tried it on a 4th router a Belkin F5D9630-4A...., guess what.......,

All 4 routers appear to have broken routing tables.... eh steam?? seriously pathetic excuse if you ask me.

Connection either clogs or drops.

Ive tried:

Unpredictable Server Browser behavior

Setting Steam Launch Options (-tcp switch on startup)

Setting Client Rates

Troubleshooting Network Connectivity Issues
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=1456-EUDN-2493

Plus all the masterserver.vdf flie etc...., nothing works.

Seems steam cant figure out how to give priority info to a client without DoS'ing them..., but its all your routers fault doncha know.

If you try to join someone from your Steam friends list, or finding someone from the RO2 Steam group who is in a game, does this still happen? At a guess the initial querying of the servers is causing your router to think it is under attack and stop any further connections for a period of time. Joining on a friend should stop that from happening, so if that works then it might be necessary to slow down the speed at which servers are listed.

Joining from the steam server browser doesnt help for me atleast. I refresh the browser.., still the same clog up.

The only way i worked around this is booting up the game to the menu screen then alt-tab (sometimes crashes game lolz) to open the friends list in steam. Then by the small arrow by their name click Join game.

However..., on exiting the game or back to the ingame server browser, more often than not its clogged again. :/

Im no expert but couldnt it be down to the fact that the server browser has to deal with not just one main server list but Main server list/History/favourite/friends/recently played lists all been requested at once from all master servers?

If these lists were left to refresh WHEN REQUESTED rather than when the list is first focused ie: from ingame with the click of a button AFTER filters have been added?, wouldnt this cut down the stupid amount of requests from so many different master servers?

So many edits ups :|

I didn't read the entire thread but I had this issue too, I fixed it by disabling the ping flood protection on my router.

Should fix the problem for you too

Nope sorry glad it worked for you but didnt for me.

Anyhow what makes you or steam think i should compromise my network/router security because they cant figure out how not to DoS a client?

This is the last thing that I tried, I am not looking anymore, done with the BS.

I am not buying another game through Steam. I would not recommend any Games that Require Steam to play.

Thank you for contacting Steam Support.

Please exit Steam and go to the folder called C:\Program Files\Steam\ (this is the default location for a Steam installation - if you set a different installation directory, you will need to browse to it).

Delete all of the files in this folder except:

The \Steamapps\ folder and Steam.exe (this file is listed as an application and features the black and white Steam logo)

Restart your computer.

Then, launch Steam.exe from within the Steam installation folder, and not from a pre-existing shortcut.

With Steam running, re-test the original issue.

Note: This process will not affect your currently installed games.

Additionally, please complete this process for your installed game(s):
