Favourite war movie?

"the pianist" is a verry good ww2 movie, not much known in usa i believe, but its an exellent movie. verry hard to watch but its a butifull story , and it contains some of the most realistic combat scenes ever seen by me.

I think that film is called Europa, Europa ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Europa_Europa )

Anyone seen the film Red Beach? It's surprisingly similiar to SPR in some parts.

Also, Soldier Of Orange is an awesome film. Doesn't have many combat scenes, but follows the lives of 5 (maybe 6) Dutch men during the occupation of the Netherlands. Very good film about a subject not usually shown.

You saw that movie from an anti-communist director's point of view; the guy was serving in the Army at that time, but thankfully to his father (big movie director), he wasn't sent to Afghan, instead he served in a cavalry unit at Mosfilm.
He also once said that he thinks that all volunteers who served there were stupid ("duraki").
I mean, he could make it without all this pathetic "OMG the Empire doesn't give a **** about its soldiers" crap, just like it was in RL - those soldiers weren't forgotten, their neighbours were fighting their way to help them all night and on the other day they went to fight without any rest, guys at that height had artillery support all the time, most of them survived, those, who died, received medals, some of them - even HSU..
In Russia many people see this film as another propaganda wank.

Some of my favourite movies on the war in the former Yugoslavia in the 1990s;

Pretty Village, Pretty Flame:

No Man's Land:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Man's_Land_(2001_film)

Both are full of dark satire about the war, 'Pretty Village' is basically a black comedy while No Mans Land is more serious but still with much humour.

Also, Grbavica, not really a 'war film' , more on the effects of war on lives, very moving;
