Actually, there is one important note on running INF on XP:

The old Unreal engine was coded for Voodoo cards (Glide render), and only comes with rudamentry D3D and OGL support, so to run it on a modern system with good visiuals, you'll want an updated OGL render (INF is best on OGL).

This bloke has the goods, updated D3D, OGL and OpenAL drivers for both Unreal and UT99, they will get INF looking and sounding good

If you download INF 2.9 CE (Community Edition) you don't have to bother with that. Everything is included there.
