What is each perk's job in game?

Medic:
Keeping the team alive, while taking out smaller specimens that harass the rest of the group (such as keeping crawlers off berserkers, gorefasts off sharpshooters, etc).

Support Specialist:
Taking out groups of specimens and keeping doors welded nice and proper. Most support specialists forget that they weld better than everyone else.

Sharpshooter:
Taking out ranged threats such as Sirens and Husks before they get close enough to do serious damage. Headshotting everything else when those threats aren't around.

Commando:
Trash man and spotter. High capacity fully auto guns do a number on smaller/weaker specimens, and with their ability to see health bars and cloaked stalkers they make good spotters. The SCAR allows them to contribute to downing the larger specimens, but I think their primary role should be to clear the smaller guys.

Berserker:
Front line of the group. The Berserker should be the primary target for eating damage/receiving heals from the medic. Could be viewed as the tank of the group.

Firebug:

Crowd control. Burning specimens are easier to spot, and one puff of flame can hit multiple targets. Weak specimens die very fast from burn damage, and stronger ones take enough damage to conserve ammo for the rest of the group.

Demolition:
Crowd control. Works differently from the Firebug. Grenades do splash damage and are capable of dropping multiple specimens quite quickly. Demomen should conserve their grenades for when the groups of specimens get large, and try to lure Fleshpounds into pipe bombs.

Medic: Missing with your dart gun because the berserker keeps moving erratically, as though the specimens had guns.

Support: Trying to snipe with the Shotgun because the Sharpshooters kill everything before they close to short range.

Sharpshooter: Making a mockery of Scrake & FP. Going Rambo and succeeding.

Commando: Setting all his weapons to semi auto, trying to compete with Sharpshooters for plinking small enemies. Uses the SCAR to deal moderate damage to Scrake / FP before a Sharpshooter blows its head clean off with one shot.

Berserker: Being in the way and taking lots of damage.

Firebug: Lighting the Patriarch on fire so you can chase it down. Competing with Commando and Sharpshooter for plinking small enemies. Obscuring everyone's vision.

Demolition: Laying down convenient smoke screens for the Scrakes and FPs.

For friendly fire servers, you'll have to add these:

Medic: Accidentally healing with MP7 primary fire.
Firebug: Forgetting other perks aren't immune to fire.
Demolition: Turning everyone into red mist with conveniently placed pipebombs.

berseker flailing his sword of weeaboo fightan magicks pretending he's useful to the team, not blocking everyone's fire and wasting all the medic's time

medic healing the berserker, and having to reload to kill a clot with headshots on hard or above

support is struggling to get enough kills to finance his ammo costs, as the only enemies that get into his weapon's effective range are the ones that the berserker is providing cover for
\|/
commando immediately sold his ak, bought a scar, put it on semi, and became a sharpshooter that didn't quite go pro
\|/
sharpshooter hacking the game's data files to change "beginner, normal, hard, and suicidal" to "trivial, trivial, Beginner, and Normal".

demolition countering enemy sharpshooters by using his smoke grenade launcher to allow allied scrake / fp to close to melee range. His smoke grenades also kill off smaller specimens, denying money to enemy supports, commandos, firebugs, berserkers, and medics.

firebug - lighting teammates on fire. If ff is off, his job is to pretend to be the commando, who is in turn pretending to be the sharpshooter.
