Medic:
Keeping the team alive, while taking out smaller specimens that harass the rest of the group (such as keeping crawlers off berserkers, gorefasts off sharpshooters, etc).
Support Specialist:
Taking out groups of specimens and keeping doors welded nice and proper. Most support specialists forget that they weld better than everyone else.
Sharpshooter:
Taking out ranged threats such as Sirens and Husks before they get close enough to do serious damage. Headshotting everything else when those threats aren't around.
Commando:
Trash man and spotter. High capacity fully auto guns do a number on smaller/weaker specimens, and with their ability to see health bars and cloaked stalkers they make good spotters. The SCAR allows them to contribute to downing the larger specimens, but I think their primary role should be to clear the smaller guys.
Berserker:
Front line of the group. The Berserker should be the primary target for eating damage/receiving heals from the medic. Could be viewed as the tank of the group.
Firebug:
Crowd control. Burning specimens are easier to spot, and one puff of flame can hit multiple targets. Weak specimens die very fast from burn damage, and stronger ones take enough damage to conserve ammo for the rest of the group.
Demolition:
Crowd control. Works differently from the Firebug. Grenades do splash damage and are capable of dropping multiple specimens quite quickly. Demomen should conserve their grenades for when the groups of specimens get large, and try to lure Fleshpounds into pipe bombs.
