Sound issues

The game works fine but the sounds is terrible -- as if every sound was playing in slow motion. What's going, on - it's on freshly installed Win Xp.

I am having the same issues with sound, but on a Mac laptop. The gameplay is running at normal pace, but all the guns sound the same and the music and voices are all slow-mo sounding. Sometimes if I just start up the game its just fine for about five minutes or less before the sound starts doing this, and it persists even if I play in practice mode (which I presume is offline as is).
