So, I saw Rancid this weekend.

Alright:

First and foremost, punk is NOT about technical proficiency. It has never been and it will never be. Therefore, it's unfair to say "omgz they ****z lolz". The message has always been the most important in music, not neccasarily the music. Music with a message.

Another thing, there were two things that set The Clash apart from their punk contemporaries:

1.) They were better musicians. Just listent to songs as "Brand New Cadillac", "London Calling", "Rock The Cashbah" (Topper Headon recorded most of that track all by himself), etc. This makes them a much better punk band then, say, the Sex Pistols. In my opinion, of course. The Pistols rocked too, though.

2.) Most punk bands had a "**** it, we don't care" nihilistic attitude to them. But that's not really punk. The Clash still had hope. They truly believed in positive change. They always kept their integrity.

And yeah, good punk definately requires skill to make. One of my favourite punk bands are Bad Religion - fast (but still melodic), and brilliant lyrics. Check 'em out.

Oh, and you punk fans might be interested in this film that's appearantly coming out:

Looks pretty damn cool. Only recently got into the 80's hardcore. Good stuff. :)
