RO Damage System

I have trawled through all the posts about the ballistic system in RO which are of great interest, but I haven't been able to find anything about the damage system (against players).

Is there any kind of terminal ballistics involved? I know (from playing experience) there is penetration and obviously some kind of multiple hit box system for the different limbs but wondered if anyone on here/devs could shed some light on how the rest of the system works?

Is the damage calculated from kinetic energy of the projectile? Do the players have "health" or do they have an absorption rate (i.e. how much K.E. they can absorb before being damaged).
