For a laugh, I played as commander on Konigplatz?

Firstly I would like to know, are arty strikes random in their length? Because when i thought the strike was over, I would choose a new spot run back & then I would hear new rounds coming in..?

I ended up getting confused over what site had been chosen, and before I knew it my own rounds were landing around me!!! WTF!!?

Secondly, can you hit a commander who is standing in the turret looking out? Cos again on Konig, I let rip with my hull mg and hit nothing. Again WTF!!!???

I had a good connection so I didnt blame lag, cos I swopped to main gun and blew his tiger to hell...

I really need the arty question answered tho :)

I've been playing russian commander on Konig lately and have had some really fun games. The strategy I've been employing seems to have worked well. Essentially it's roll the arty down the middle, with everyone following it and send the tanks down the flanks.

Ask the tanks to cover each flank. Ask everyone else to take the Monestary, which is key and gives the commander access to the radio.

Once that's taken send arty to the first hill towards axis. It's 3 or 4 salvos. As everyone advances after that hit the right side of the Stess (whatever it's called, middle building).

Wait, advance to building, and hit the Reichstag, right side from the radio at the middle building.

Advance. I've seen this map taken in a matter of minutes. Truly awesome.

I've had some of the best times on that map.

I think Konigs has 7 strikes per request...too much imo.
I don't know if the mapper sets it in stone per map,i would think its better to add it to game script to limit overall arty spam,ie the commanders only gets so many strikes per map limited to 1 larger barrage per strike. At the moment it comes across as more ambient spam than tactics.

Also the compass could be used alot better in this respect,as is, i turn it off.I find it a relic of older FPS .I can't find any reason why its there at all at the min.

The game wants players to use the ingame map but its just a chore to keep opening the map that limits visibility to check for little icons in the midst of battle.Personally I think it would be a better idea to impose a mini map representing the battlefield on the compass that shows rally points and artillary strikes etc and put it to good use.

The players on each team then see a quick update of the battle and orders from the commander and would react as a team with little effort. In conjunction with the order ,every player should hear a radio message of the new rally point or strike. As is, the commander orders a rally point and i'm hot in the action and can't open the map..then when i'm done the rally point seems like yesterday.

Overall i think you would have much better teamplay even in pubs,if the compass was more useful to the player. And the commanders have more fun leading the battle cause people would be taking a lot more notice.

BOOOM!

Great Story :D (Although its TERRIBLE since I will probalby have to wait for several weeks before I can get my hands on a RO copy)

I'm somewhat off my socks how much good stuff I hear about the gameplay on the servers, I guess Tripwire has done a damn good job with that. Realism creates his own balance, hu? :)

Is their any map guides out there which explain all the details of any given map?

This would be real handy..

e.g. how the objectives work, arty, etc.

specific details as far as artillery size, time, Re-inforcements, etc... is all determined inside the map interface "UED", by the mapper.

Until the SDK is released, and Someone opens those maps up to get those details (like i plan on doing) then youll have to wait.

I did do this so far:

but i think you have seen that already.

Arty is set up by the mapper but has some variation codded in. So, a call on KonigsPlatz, which has it's salvo count set to low, will have barrages of 3 to 5 strikes, not a fixed number. This incorporates some unpredictability. The number of guns firing per barrage also has some variation coded per setting, and mappers can set the spread of the barrage, which is 'small' for konigs.

Well anyway, I hope arty becomes customizable and a server side option cos Im not a fan of it one little bit!!

Communication between 'commander' (what a laughable title) and the rest of the team is not up to scratch.

Basically it goes like this:

1) Select 'Commander'

2) Immediatly start calling in strikes deppending on access to radio

3) Completely spam any area where you might spot a single soldier lurking

4) Eventually get kicked for too many tks

Just my observation thus far but Im sure things will get better

You're decribing a sucky commander. Like all roles, you have people that know how to play the role and people that just brainlessly spam/kill/dropturds :)

A good commander on KonigsPlatz does a few things:

- observe enemy strong points and main reinforcement routes
- observe the status of your teams advancement
- spam the enemy reinforcement routes with arty barrage (or break an unbreakable strong point that prevents your team from moving up) <-- usually drop arty BEHIND the objective your team is after, certainly not drop it in your teams way
- shout and scream and move foreward being the spearhead point of your assault wave and try to reach the targeted capzone alive, duck, take cover and houllar your team to advance, scream for help, order to move. You are a valuable asset IN the capzone, since you add more to the balance tree then a regular soldier.

Big fun, really rewarding and it feels totally awesome to combine strategically placed artillery with crazy rushes intoi enemy lines :)
