Cannot Install

Just got the boxed PC version of the game and tried to install.

I get a window asking for language (I choose english).
Then I get the splash screen and I choose Install the game.
I then get the EULA and I click accept and Install.
The installer dies immediately.

Hello Tripwire. I downloaded and played The Ball demo and enjoyed it. I then was surprised to find a new boxed copy of the game in a local games supplier carrying a bonus audio disc and a postcard - all very nice. When I got it home, unwrapped it and tried to install it, I kept getting a error on the activation code with the Steam install. The retailer has a strict no return policy on PC titles and I don't want to buy it twice to play. Is there anything you can do to help?
