Am I the only one having trouble with melee?

I'm having a lot of problems connecting in melee. It seems like my damn bayonet isn't lethal at all, passing through bodies like ghosts. I charge them, with a mighty impressive scream and stab 'em right in the bloody torso, but I just miss. Then they shoot me.

Prone has issues. There's a video somewhere around here of a guy trying to stab a guy over 8 times while he's crawling away prone. The video taker eventually had to pull out his BAR and shoot him at PBR.

If you have any problems meleeing when you're upright, it might be because you're clipping into the player and your swing/stab goes past them.

I had that issue with a crouched Russian. Caught him off guard and stabbed him 2 times in the back and and all I got was a sound like I was stabbing a brick wall. Got shot right after that happened. Lame.

Melee is working quite fine. It is very difficult to hit, but on the other extreme you have games where you just press a button and your character will align, bring up a third arm and deliver an unblockable attack that kills instantly, even while you are shooting them.

A fully charged bayonet is fantastic, though most my melee kills have been frantic rifle butting against opponents as shocked and unable to return fire as I am (ie out of ammo).

What I need to test and confirm is at what point a melee attack is delievered. Is it the moment you release the mouse button, or is it at the appropriate moment in the attack animation? Is it an extremely short range shooting attack or is the blunt/sharp end of the attack active for a few milliseconds and able to touch the enemy at any time for it's duration? This makes a huge difference in how to aim the attack.

I once hit a crouching guy in the face with my rifle butt, only to have him hit me in the nuts with his pistol. I died.

The end.

The guy needs to be literally touching the enemy. I've stood over guys who are proning, trying to bayonet them, then they just turn around a shoot me.

He pulled out his Browning Assault Rifle?!

What the hell am I missing there?

Browning Automatic Rfle. U.S. wouldn't invent any assault rifles of their own until a few decades later. I just couldn't help but post to tell someone they're wrong.
