About last decade...

I hate people who say "this and that decade had bad music". Every decade has good and bad music. You just have to know where to look and keep an open mind, and you'll find good music. And if you think a certain decade sucked, it's probably because of personal problems. Life can be as good or bad as you want it to be, you are in complete control of it.

noone said that this decade had bad music:confused: (allthought i think so when listening to the radio...)

I think next decades will be our society either degenerating into a repressed dystopia by slowly cutting the people's freedom, rights and privacy, or the muslim population growing so much that we'll live in Islamic countries

the future points in those two directions... which one will it be? both?

edit: and I agree 100% with Nimsky

I thought the 00's were pretty **** - looking back at previous decades they all have their own...significant upheaval (social, cultural etc). The defining event of the decade is the 11/9 attacks, and I'll be damned before hanging my hat on that. It's like saying the defining event of the 30's was the Reichstag fire...

In my eyes the 00's was just an exercise in political control and repression, despite the increased availability of knowledge, although it may be greatly clouded in rubbish - or maybe they all were, only now I'm wise enough to see it more clearly.
Very, very true, the move towards 'nanny state' politics where the government intrudes into every aspect of life is already starting to develop over here. It's happening so slowly people won't even realise it until the boot is well and truly down their throats.

Whether you like it or not the 11/9 attacks shaped this decade, socially, politically and militarily. In fact it opened the door for the type of government intrusion I am talking about above, of course under the guise of security measures.

I predict in the next decade we will see the complete failure of the effort in Afghanistan and the wider middle east. Which in itself will lead to social and political strife and probably leave the place more of a militant and extremist haven than ever.

...it kind of sucked, didn't it?

Personal experiences vary, of course. Still: the wars, the economy, the music, the movies, the games... lots of bad developments for all of us. Maybe it's just me being melancholic since this decade was also the end of my youth.

I'll tell you when it's over.. still got a year to go!

It's true that most popular music sucks, but if you ignore EVERY song that is popular, you're missing out on some good stuff. Just keep an open mind, like Fed said, some popular songs are actually pretty good. But if you're like "hurp durp i refuse to listen to that' of course you won't like it.

or if you're forced to make it your hobby to search for good music amongst all the crap.

There. It's not. That. Hard.

Indeed, the problem with finding new good music/bands is.. what do you search for when you don't yet know that good band you'd love exists or what it's called?

Finding good music thease days pretty much comes down to word of mouth, and threads like our own "Music video thread", that's where you have to look, because you sure as hell wont be exposed to it over the Radio or MTV.
