5 minute loading map wait?

When i start Red Orchestra and join a server, i will half to wait more than 5 minutes to get into the server and play...

specs-

Intel(R)
Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.66GHz
2.67 GHz 512 MB of RAM

i have 512 MB of RAM and my friend has 368 MB, he loads in under a minute, and it takes me 5 minutes to load in...

More RAM is the solition. About your friend loading faster, it may be different configurations. I have 1.5GB of RAM and my friend has 1GB, and he loads 15 seconds earlier than me.

Link does work and ram does help. I have a 3 Ghz pentium with 2 gig of ram. My loading times about 10-15 secs. I followed guidelines in the link.

i found the problem, i put steam in my 250 gig USB driver and its performing slow, that is why im getting problems with CSS, DDS and HL2DM, all i half to do is move the steam folder back to the C drive and it should work

look at the throughput rate for USB 2 mate, its crap. One of those drives is good for back ups and archives but nothing involving rapid disc access.

USB slots look identical, you'll need to check properties My Computer,Control Panel,System,Hardware,Device Manager, to find whether your usb connection is 2.0 or earlier.

Transfer rates roughly speaking are :

USB2 =480Mbps= 60 MBps
USB1.1=12Mbits= 0.15 MBps
SATA 3 = 300 MBps hard drive newer type (thin data cable)
ATA 133 = 133 MBps hard drive older type (80 conduuctor cable)

So as you can see, the internal hard drive transfer is much quicker.

This link works 100% and adjusting the cache size works 100% too.
I have 512MBRam and I load maps in 20-40 seconds.
