there have been some reports that on Guadalcanal some marines modified 1903's with BAR mags spot welded where the floor plate should be, thus allowing for much more capacity in the gun. Pictures are hard to come by, and reports are spotty, but it has been said several books/memoirs mention this modification

Any chance we could one day see this as an unlock, say at level 50?

Give the old US players a nice reward for taking the long and slow route with a bolt

why bad idea? the gun is still a bolt, it was a modification not experimental and it has some historical precedence. also, to reload you would have to shove 4 stripper clips in, so it would be balanced.

also, it give a fun extra to an underused gun because the garand is so much better

Like you said yourself existence of the mod hinges a few photos and "spotty" accounts and there certainly was no evidence that this mod was anywhere near common place. Nor is there any evidence about its effectiveness and reliability. MP-40II, Mkb42, AVT-40, Type 100 all had "historical precedence .. and look how they turned out.

Also the the garand being so much better? Thats very much a subjective thing, especially with those awful sights they have in this game.

I cant imagine any such modification being beneficial in the long term, I mean what if the spring in the BAR magazine failed? presumably this would need the magazine to be unwelded again and replaced until you could get ammunition to feed into the weapon properly.

In most cases 5 shots was all a soldier needed, hence why most British soldiers around the same period never bothered to load there Enfields to full capacity.
