fancy stell armor.

Although I wouldn't count on it to save your life >100 meters.

Helmets which where designed for shrapnel could occasionally stop a bullet if hit at an angle.

I'm sure as stated, it could stop some rounds, at an angle close range, awesome against shrapnel and bayonets too. With a helmet you have some good protection.

I would like to see helmets actually save your life on occasion in ROHOS.
Say a bayonet to your helmet, shrapnel etc.

Would be nice as a customization unlock for highest rank Heroes.

They did state only elite-Inf units where issued body armor.

(ARMAII lame no body armor.)

thanks for nice reply Nora and happy one hundred post.

there are small clues all over internet, that says there were Tankodesantniki used in Stalingrad.
Fighting for the Soviet Motherland: Recollections from the Eastern ...
This was the beginning of the long-awaited Stalingrad counteroffensive. ...... Visual signals were used to communicate between defending companies. ..... Our tankodesantniki, I should say here, were a permanent element of our combat ...

But to tell the truth i have no idea what so ever.
Also it seems there is a turn based strategy game which name is Stalingrad. Seems they have Tankodesantniki there on the t-34, but I have no idea if the game is based on reliable information, seems to be very realistic game. It seems DTF Games made the game but...... eee they also made petz hotel for DS...
Also a game with the name Flames Of War, tankodesantniki, no idea what so ever.

.html they seem to be talking about many things including testing armor. It seemed 5 mm steel chest plate could stop a rifle round at 100 meters. SN-42 is 2 mm
I have had a headache in 3 days now, so please be nice.
And we got the elite units if only the Soviet Union good with reports and stuff, we could maybe know if some elite units or others were issued some of the body armors. Only some diaries of some Russian soldiers may say some of the used the armor. But i guess they are long gone

I think Tankodesantniki were used in stalingrad, but that does not mean they wore bodyarmour.
The term "Tankodesantniki" mean soldiers riding on tanks, not soldiers with bodyarmour riding on tanks, right? ;)

USMC bayonets are capable of going straight through modern day body armour.

modern body armor is made of kevlar or other material.
A strong knife or bayo can go through kevlar more easly than through a steelplate...

The RO team should get an old Kar98, buy a Russian BreastPlate and test it at different ranges. I'm sure with the success of there previous games, this would not be an issue. ;)

Just like tank battles, there are so many factors that go into whether or not a shot will pierce armor. There are always exceptions at any range.
