Please help me decide between two GFX cards!

Palit Radeon HD 4870 Sonic Dual Edition 512Mb DDR5 PCI-e model 28310

The other is -

Sapphire ATI Radeon 4870 512MB DDR5 Retail

First one is only slightly cheaper (about 15-20 dollars)

The Palit is freaking loud, believe me. It's pretty annoying until your brain blocks it out (if you are lucky).

I don't know about the Sapphire but I think it's noisy too. Can't be as loud as the Palit, though. If 20 bucks is no issue for you (20 bucks is not that small a difference imo) I'd give the Sapphire a shot.

I your PC has good noise protection or you simply don't mind: 20 bucks for a nice cinema visit with girlfriend and the Palit.

I've got a Saphire 4870 (probably roughly the same model) and its fine and dandy, with the default fan settings its pretty quiet till it swtiches on high for about 2-3seconds before going back to normal, though I only notice this on desktop and never while listening to music/films/playing games.

I did flash the bios of the card to a better fan setting but I began getting problems, that may or may not have been related so I flashed it back. Also with the newest CCC you can manually adjust the fan speed if its a problem at all.

I had a Palit 6600GT back in the days, and it's fan died out on me 2 years later. It wasn't loud but it was cheap

the palit is a factory overclocked card the sapphire is not afaik.

Also i have the 1gb version of the palit, i have had no problems noise wise.

Make sure you get a 1GB model. Definitely faster than the 512s.

1980x1200 but i whould more get it for prep for ro:hos since iam happy with the setup for now but i noticed some slight ( really minimal ) problems with UT3

well another hd4850 would work nice sure but for high res's you really start to notice the advantage of a card with more ram.

2 hd4850's is faster than anything except the fancy hd4870x2 and the gtx295.

I'd get an HD 4890 1GB or HD 4870 1GB.

I went out and got the EAH4870 (aka "Dark Knight"). It's a 1 GB 4870 with ASUS' Dark Knight cooler. This thing is whisper quiet, and on load temperature at about 35-45 Celsius. I haven't had any conflicts with it yet.

In the end I bought the Sapphire 4870 one, 1 gig and the Toxic version..
That thing is a ****ing monster and now _EVERYTHING_ works on the highest graphics possible
