Car navigation systems.

Don't go for TomTom. No, seriously.

Their support is terrible, the batteries are horrible, crashes are quite common and updating never seems to work properly.

There aren't much navigation systems which work anywhere near flawless, but if there is one to recommend it's a Garmin with a reasonably sized screen and built-in speakers.
If you want a good navigation system for about 200 euro, get the Garmin n

During my driving lessons I sometimes used a TomTom One, this one, and I liked it.... but I see many people like Garmin too.

If I'm not mistaken the updates for the TomTom are free, whereas you have to pay for the Garmin ones, right?

I'd say the best one is Roadmap, or Map&Compass (tm):p
Be sure to take another Human(tm) with you to read directions out loud:)

Show me one roadmap that can automatically lead you to the destination while driving :p
