Wartime Sounds

Does anyone know where to get really good wartime sounds (like gunshots, AA guns, explosions, etc.). Ive checked up in the sound department and scavenged what I could, but does anyone know about any of the really good stuff? Like the stuff that has the echoe's, the nice mix between bass and the "kapow". That kind of stuff

Or does anyone know how to add echoes and effects using a sound editor?

Also, does anyone have that one wartime sound, not sure if its a shot or an explosion, but its that "FFWaapp" noise.

All sounds I ever use for videos I make, I use video game sounds. If you have some games installed, check their folders for sounds.

Especially good to use, are Half-Life mods. I've gotten a lot of sounds from: Hostile Intent, the Specialists, Firearms, Plan of Attack, etc.
Yes mods are a great resource, for a while I had my MP5 in CS: S sound like the HMG from from Natural Selection :p.

Also, check out FPSBANANA, there is a entire sound section, though I mostly use the sounds that come bundled with gun models in the skins section. Well actually I have a specific set that I use for firing sounds (you can easily confuse yourself as to which gun that gunshot came from if you aren't consistent with your sounds) but sometimes I save a few that I like. Reload sounds are always up for grabs though (I know weapons are making the move to plastic from metal but there are enough metal weapons around to have non-plastic reload sounds garsh dangit!)

And as always, credit the person(s) if you decide to distrubite your work using their sounds.

For sounds that aren't made up of too many tracks you would be best off using Soundforge - it is reasonably intuitive.

You will need really good speakers to work on sounds in such a way as to do them true justice and you will have to be very patient and also quite ruthless with discarding sounds that you aren't 100% sure about cos when you get them in-game 'not 100% sure' turns to '100% sure they sound rubbish' very quickly.
